Right, i'll keep this as short as I can....My injector pump was leaking so I took it to garage, they say that pump is knacked and it will cost around £400 at least and there is no gurantee it will work. I dont doubt them, but obviously its an old van so its not worth paying that, so, I'm left with a few options.

1. Get a pump from a scraped van and fit that: But I have been told this is almost impossible as the immobilizer is part of the pump...Is this true?

-OR-

2. Would it be easier and cheaper to fit a whole new engine? ans if so, which one and how much do you reckon a garage would charge to do it?

-OR-

Any other ideas?

Thanks for reading, Tom

If you get a pump from an earlier one they don't have an immobiliser, just connect a 12V supply from the ignition circuit to the stop solonoid.

Oh okay, what sort of age am I looking for?

I've seen your other post;firstly which engine? A van of this age will either be a NA(60ps) or a TC(70ps).The TCI engine (90PS) was not offered tho' it was homologated. As said elsewhere,an earlier pump could be fitted-the NA engine was fitted to Escorts and Fiestas.IIRC you'd need one from about 1989 t0 1993.Doesnt matter whether it's a Bosch or a CAV as long as you have the injectors and pipework to go with it.

The engine is the NA non turbo. How much do you think a garage would charge to do the job? Or could I have a crack at it myself?

Doing it yourself would be a lot cheaper. You will need to remove the cam belt cover and possibly the belt, depending on the design, disconnect all the pipes, the throttle linkage and electrical connections, three bolts hold the pump on. Mark the position of the pump on the backplate and fit the replacement in the same position, it still may be necessary to rotate the pump to get the correct timing.

Thanks for that! Now the hunt begins for a pump...I imagine one of that age will be quite hard to come by. Anyhow i'll keep my eyes peeled on ebay!

Also, its MOT is not far off, If I don't manage to find a pump before then, I assume it wont pass an MOT with a slight diesel drip??

There are a couple on ebay now, one starting at £19.99 and another at £30.00 buy it now. First one is a non turbo, second one doesn't say, you will have to enquire.

Depends how 'slight' the drip is, you could always ask them.
