Car hire brokers - are these safe? - Nickdm
I usually book hire cars directly through the rental company, or on occasion I have used Holiday Autos. I have now been quoted a good price from a company called Car Hire 3000.com Has anybody used this company and are they OK/trustworthy?

Another company that is new to me is auto-europe.co.uk. Again is this outfit safe to use?!

TIA

Hi

Myself or members of my family have used them (carhire3000) numerous times over the past 4-5 years and found them to be excellent. It is much easier to figure out how much you are actually paying and takes away the selling of upgrades at the desk esp in the US. I'm not sure how helpful they'd be in the event of a problem though.

We have used economycarhire.com for European hire and they always provide good service. Prices include excess waiver, which was handy when our hire car took a hit to a door in a car park.

Called hire company who noted it, but we never heard anything else.

I used carhire3000 to hire earlier this year. I got a stunning deal on a mid-size SUV as the place didn't offer mini-vans and the only other deal I could find that did was twice the price.

All was well until I got there and the truck wasn't quite big enough. The hire company got their pound of flesh for me to upgrade - 6 days for the mid-size was £280 all in, they charged another £550 for the upgrade to a full-size.

Lesson - make sure you order what you want, you can get an amazing deal but there's little flexibility.

Had car with them for three weeks in the US last year. Their quote was quite a bit cheaper than others I had, and I'd already booked with someone else. Nevertheless, I took the online quote option, which asks for your email address, intending to find out what my cancellation costs were on the other car. I forgot, and after a few days I got another email from carhire3000 asking why I hadn't taken up the quote and offering a further £30 off" That was a clincher. Not sure if it always works like that.

The rental was with Dollar, IIRC.

I use Carhire 3000 for the USA , always been a good deal with no problems. USA rentals seems less hassle than the European ones. I am not sure why, the cars in USA tend to be used for higher melages than the UK too, I hired a Toyota Avalon last year with 42K on the clock. However, it was perfect and I did another 3K miles in it.

Have used Auto-Europe in Portugal & Spain, without problems. Sometimes the pick up and drop off arrangements are a bit different from the norm, but as long as you know in advance, not a problem.
