With so many cars these days how do we know that a particular system installed is relaible and robust, here where I live in the UAE this is serious issue, because when it gets hot in the summer it reaches 45-50c, this a proper system is crucial

How do we know if a car company has built a proper system with a good sized compressor that is relaible, to peole have any idea?

You're asking in the wrong place, its not as if we're ever going to challenge the limits of a/c in the UK is it? ;-)

I thought that VW had engineered the Phaeton to have 100% a/c at high heat while driving flat out.

Just look at car by car breakdown on this site. The VAG group cars are known to have an unreliable aircon compressor, and the older shape Volvo V70's had a problem with a faulty compressor clutch. I don't know if it still happens to the new shape V70's, but I wouldn't be surprised because like VAG, they carry faulty components over onto their new models despite the fact they don't work properly.

Volvo also had heater matrix problems, they leaked coolant which meant stripping out the dashboard to replace it. I could never understand how a car manufacturer like Volvo who design cars for Swedish winters would stint on something so fundamental to the heating system.

I don't understand the agreement between a car manufacturer and a component supplier, but it seems like the above manufacturers have a contract with said supplier for a certain amount of time. Why else would they continue putting faulty components in their cars? Perhaps someone could enlighten me.

If you are living in the UAE, you just buy whatever the locals buy.
