Yes that is right, just seen the service schedule for the current Citroen models as dad has just got a Picasso HDI. The C3 HDI (Same engine as 206, 307, Fiesta) has a scheduled cambelt change at 150,000 miles and does not specify a "or x years whichever.....". The other HDI engines are specified at 100,000 miles.

Gosh

The dealers' sales manager said he wouldn't leave it that long, and that he would change the oil twice as often.

Your dealer would say that. He wants the business.
Your dealer will also put whatever oil he wants into it, dealers seem to stick to one supplier. I shall take my own fully synthetic diesel specific oil along for my service rather than use their semi-synthetic petrol or diesel oil.
My C3 HDI 16 valve (92bhp) has now clocked up 7600 miles and is running sweeter and smoother than it ever did, mid range acceleration is fantastic and economy has now settled down at about 68mpg whilst being thrashed.

I know on the 406HDI, a belt change is a real pig of a job and costs a pretty penny. Probably why they quote such a long interval to save shocking their customers too early.

When buying a new car, why don't we ask things like:- How much is a belt change/exhaust/bulb behind dash/clutch/headlight replacement? Might save a shock later on. And whilst you're at it, take a look around the workshop to see what state it's in. It won't be definitive, but could give you an idea as to how the place is run, and therefore, possibly the quality of work you're likely to get.

Ford's service website gives a standard price of £250 for a
Zetec E engine (see link in FAQ answer no 1). 8
valve VWs used to be £100 to £120.

They will negotiate.

A rover dealer undercut everyone else I called when I made it clear I was on a 'phone round'.

Just checked with my local Volvo dealer and Volvo recommend changing the belt on a D5 diesel at 96kmiles or 8 years. Cost is included in the 96k mile service and is around £400 the lot. Not bad I thought.

So, come on guys - give me the bad news - how often and how much does it cost to do the belt on a 2.0 HDi Cit engine. Mine has done 55,000 (high proportion motorway) and Cit say 72,000 (which seems a lot to me.Is 60,000 (miles not £s) a fair figure?

If you are asking the question or thinking about it, get it done tomorrow! Depending how long you keep the car ( ie if < 120k miles?) it costs no more to do at 55k than at 60k! Let some other por s*d pick up the bill for the secong replacement, or worse.
