Citroen Picasso-Good deal? - Alf
Just been offered a pre-reg 52 (reg 3 weeks ago, still in wax)5 miles on the clock Picasso 2.0 Hdi SX in silver by my local dealer for immediate delivery for £11,240 OTR and he's offered to take my 1992 ZX diesel Citroen Aura as a trade in for £1,000 off that price, i.e. £10,240. Not being well-versed in buying new motors, this sounds like a good deal considering I can have it now and dont have to travel halfway across the UK to get it. (plus I reckon private sale of a 100.000 miler ZX 1.9D is around £500?)

Any opinions will be welcome from those more experienced in dealing in new cars, or can tell me if there is a problem with pre -reg that I've missed. I intend to drive it into the ground.

Regards,

Alf

PS He also quoted me an unregistered one at £12,240 and offered £750 against the ZX (£11,490) Which is the best one to go for?

I don't know anything about your trade in price but from a quick surf of car brokers who supply official UK supplied cars www.carfile.net/ have the same (**unregistered**) model listed on their website at £10,744 and www.broker4cars.co.uk/ list it at £10,995 and www.drivethedeal.com/ have it at £10,931 (metallic is extra in each case though).

Car brokers aren't interested in trade-ins I believe so you'd need to get rid of your old car privately. I have no idea what you'd get for it....

Only caveat with a pre-registered (which is officially a 'used' car) is that many motor insurance policies offer new replacements if your new (i.e. not pre-registered) car is written off in the first year and you don't get any manufacturer freebies like free insurance or cheap finance that you *may* get with a brand new car.

There are also Citroen prices listed on this website under the 'Bargain Weekend' news item...

Anyway, happy shopping and let us know what you decide to do!

Thanks very much for your input, Martin and HJ,

I thought the deal sounded OK, and older 2nd hand motors are getting harder to shift so I kill 2 birds with one stone this way. Also the dealer is only 10 miles down the road and I can have it today in the colour I want, whereas all the car supermarkets and brokers are down in Englandshire and I,m stuck up here in Haggisland (very nice it is too-if a little remote).

I,m gonna go for it!

Alf

Just make sure your pre-reg gets 1yr road tax as opposed to 6 months and try to get floor mats and a full tank of derv.

Or you could always try quoting the broker prices to see if your dealer will match it :-)

Having said that I guess it's always best to try to buy the car from the dealer who will be servicing it/doing warranty work as they should be more inclined to go the extra mile if you have problems and they'll probably be more inclined to e.g. lend you a courtesy car you would think.

cheers

Martin

Although he may be a few hundred more expensive than others (not knowing what other PX offers you got) if it was me, I would be happy to spend it knowing that it came from a main dealer. I know that dealers are supposed to give warranty service to all and sundry but I would think that you would get better service if you came thru the dealer network. (I always get asked whether my car is an import).

Got the deal done this afternoon, £10,240 OTR pre-reg 24 Sept 02! In my favourite colour.with my old ZX inc. as p/ex,full tank of derv, floor mats but only 6 mths tax, however, £50 given to my mate (by the dealer) who has a Picasso and recommended it to me-a few beers to celebrate methinks.

I weighed up your welcome opinions and taking into account the saving and absolutely zero waiting and zero stress, zero hassle in shifting the ZX, my colour of choice (arctic silver)proximity of dealer, courtesy car when serviced etc, etc. I can live with being listed as second owner on the log book.

Once again many thanks all,

Regards,

Alf
