Passat Boot light - JonL
Hi,

The boot light on my Passat '97 isn't working. I know the light itself is fine because it works if I place a wire to unpainted bodywork. So I figure it must be the switch. There appears to be no simple push switch so I'm assuming the switch is built into the lock (German over engineering?). Does anyone know if the lock can be dimantled and the switch replaced to solve this trifling if annoying problem?

Switch is built into lock assembly. Some of the switches can be removed & replaced, you would need to remove boot lid trim panel to see what type you have fitted.

Thanks Mark S - I will have a look at the weekend when I have time and daylight. How will I tell which one I have?

Probably irrelevant, but Peugeot hatchbacks have a rolling-ball switch mounted below the rear screen. Ball gets sticky and switch stops working.

Andrew T, your response to a Passat question taling about rolling ball switches in Peugeot hatches was a while ago but might help me fix a niggle. Is it straightforward to "de-sticky" the rolling ball? (I have a 1996 Peugeot 306 XSI).

BTW, Peugeots with problems seem to appear on every page of "Technical Matters" and that makes me, as a one month old Peugeot owner, feel a little loose in the bowels. I'm saying nothing about my 306 in case the fates are listening.
