Hi All I have yet another query regarding my recent purchase

Mods: I didnt know whether or not to merge this with my Registration Question, if i should of done please feel free to move, thanks :-)

I have in the last 3 weeks bought a second hand Vectra.

Ive just been reading through the service books, and when i was buying it, it never occured for me to check, and now i feel rather foolish i just saw the dealer stamps and took it as gospel

The car (ex mobilty) has not had its Pre-deleivery stamp placed in the book, does this mean it hasnt been done, and will this be a problem?

Also it has got a service stamps for its last 3 services however although this has a dealer stamp they havnt ticked in the boxes what has actually been done, and all ive got is a internet printout whih is very vaugue in its description the web address on the printout is mfldirect the mobilty company.

Im thinkking about sending a email to the original Vauxhall dealer asking questions but do you think i have any cause for concern or am i just been paranoid?

Many Thanks

garage will be far too busy dealing with old men and women (50/50 so no favouritism) doing the scrappage scheme to be interested in your email (why do people do this?) ring the blighters up,get them on the nail tell them your call is important to them as you live round the corner

Thanks, i will ring them

But does anyone know if i have bought something that i shouldnt have, I never thought about checking the deleivery stamp, but it has a vauxhall service history

Im just a little worried that ive spent a lot (to me it is) of money on something that isnt worth it

Thanks

I've usually found that there's only a 50/50 chance that the dealer ticks the boxes on what has done, and even then they don't often tick the right boxes! That's if they even remember to stamp the service book without me asking them...

I would take the car on it's merits, if it looks and seems all right, then it probably is. PDI stamps are often missing, probably nothing to worry about.

Agreed. I noticed that they hadn't ticked any in mine last year. Nor had they stamped and dated the anticorrosion check part of the service book. When I queried it, they told me that it had been serviced (and corrosion checked) in accordance with Vauxhalls policies, and the dealer stamp and date on the main service page confirmed this without needing to tick all the individual boxes. I asked them to stamp and date the anticorrosion page before I left though.

Ah thanks OilBurner - i was just a little worried the car is only 3 years old and done 20k i heard horror stories that ex mobilty cars had there speedos disconnected so that miles didnt register but the miles seem to tie up with the service schedules, and i cant see and evidence of tampering and apart from a slight scuff on the bumper the car is immacualte condition

Many of the times the book is not stamped are because the book is not with the car-don't blame it all on the dealer. The owner will say"Oh! I left it at home-I'll bring it in next weeK" and they never do.

I.ve got a Vectra 'c' from brand new and the inspection part hasn't been filled in and all the services have just been stamped with out any boxes being ticked.
I think its just the way Vauxhall garages seem to work.
Its nothing to worry about.

Motability is the largest fleet operation in the UK and they - and the dealer - will have ensured everything that needed to be done - was done. They are very professional.

Not all dealers are on the Motability scheme - they have to earn it, and it's a scheme they want to be part of, plenty of potential customers, agreed prices with Motability Fleet and the customer will almost certainly bring the car back for servicing (they're not paying so why shop around) as long as they get a coffee or a lift home etc.

Motability also have there own computerised record of all work carried out.

As a used buy Motability cars make a lot of sense. Effectively a privately used low mileage car but with fleet standard servicing. Everything that needs to be done is done with no scrimping by tight fisted private owners who won't pay the extra for things like coolant or brake fluid changes, and it won't have budget tyres or cheapo wiper blades or anything.

A good buy usually.
