How bad is this "internal oil leak?" Have you checked for clogged breathers?

car use's max oil level to min in a month, there is trace amounts of oil in the intercooler /inlet manifold / and pipes. the vanes in the turbo are tight not sure if they are supposed to be ?.
also the inlet valves are wet oily with high carbon build up?

That's only a litre - how many miles is a month? How many miles has it done?

For the turbo hoses and the intercooler to be dripping in black oil is nothing unusual - particularly if the breathers are blocked. Turbos don't have oil seals in the conventional sense.

By "tight" do you mean that the turbo is seized? They're simple things; they usually either work fine or destroy themselves quickly.

about 400 miles a month the turbo's vanes are tight but move with pressure (thought they were loose free moveing).
i'am in the middle of a top end rebuild head gasket etc so will be replaceing valve stem seals in a hope to stop this. the car has done 104,000 miles, where are the breather pipes located ?

Blowed if I can recall; from the rocker box to the turbo inlet, I think?

I'd have expected the turbo to be quite free moving after that mileage too? Could it be sticky oil? How much lift is there in the bearing?

i'll have a look for the breather pipe, car is due oil chage, no lift free play in bearing
