Had my 51 model Passat TDI 130 serviced approximately 2000 miles ago at just below 10000 miles, and the service indicator has come on again already. Have spoken to the garage with a view to taking it back to see why (they weren't sure why it should happen!), but was wondering if anyone on here could offer any suggestions? If there's a problem anywhere I don't want it reset again, only fot it to come on again in a couple of months' time!
The car in question has the 'QG1' option on the vehicle details so it can use variable servicing. The garage said, though, that this was dependent on whether the supplying dealer set it up for the variable servicing and just because it had 'QG1' listed on the details, it didn't mean its servicing was variable. They therefore put me on a '10000 miles or 1 year' as usual; they said the variable servicing used different oil that was more expensive!

You so pleased with your new car that you've been taking it out at every opportunity, even to the corner shop?
Your car's computer will pick this up, and will bring forward the servicing date. (Even so, a 2,000 mile interval sounds a bit excessive.)
If you want your Passat to last, pamper it, and walk all the local excursions. As it's often been said here, cars don't like short trips.

The shortest journey I do is 13 miles as I hate getting the car out for a 'trip to the corner shop'!! Surely 13 miles doesn't count as short?!

my wife had a similar occurence with her Lupo. Took it in for a service when the service indiicator said "please" then it asked again very soon afterwards when it was 12 months old. Maybe it wanted a birthday treat. I don't recall that she got any explanation.

We own a Seat Arosa and a MkIV VW Golf; both have had the service indicators come on after a major service was completed at franchised dealers.
From memory, the owner's manual for these cars states that the reset the indicator involves holding down the trip meter adjustment stub and then starting the engine.

I've had the same issue with my 97 Polo. Service indicator appears at completely random times. All the dealer does is reset it, which I can do myself.
Sorry to be of no help.
