04 3.7 Getting evidence of service history. - malden blue
I've just bought this car from auction it has no service book and no MOT (a gamble I know but I got it cheap) how do I do about finding out its service history, and how do I get a new service book which I can get stamped?

The reason I sound so thick is because I have been driving company cars for the last 15 years and have got out of touch with the aggro of private ownership!

You can buy a blank service book at the dealers - they may also have some service records on their computer network. VOSA's site might be able to show if it has a current MOT.

As a general rule; never buy a car without a service book. It's the first thing that goes over the hedge when they're clocked.

Cheers screwloose that was a great site (VOSA)

I now know that it has a valid MOT which runs till december (thats saved me a few bob) i also know the service centre where it was done so hopefully they can tell me the service history, the mileage looks about right it has 36k on the clock and the MOT said it had done 27k 9 months ago

I have also checked and it is on the insurance data base AND it has cartax apparently! (from websites I got from looking at a couple of other threads)

maybe I havnt bought a dud after all

I wont be road legal though I assume till I get my own tax disc

Yes; the old tax may have been surrendered and there's still "failure to display."

If the DVLA are happy; then you should be safe from ANPRs until the end of this month - at least.

How about that for a smile?
Somehow I think is probably wasn't deliberate, but it's still humorous:

Have a good 31st :-) (at least).

Its now insured I know it has a current MOT (Iv ordered a duplicate for £10) but I havnt got a tax disc

Its all coming together!!!

The changeover period from one owner to another is a grey area, I know they used to give you a week opr so to get it sorted, but I suppose there are so many uninsured un taxed cars on the roads nowadays that us 'law abiding' types will have to suffer the consequences
