2002 2.0 corrosion issues - Sheltie508
Hi, need some help here. My 52 reg mazda 6 has been in for corrosion on the rear wheel arches back in feb. I havce now discovered rust coming through from the inside on both the bonnet and front wheel arches. I reported this to the mazda body shop about a month ago and they have just got back to me to say that as the arch is not perforated this is not covered by the warranty.

The rust is actually bubbling the paintwork and the underneath of the bonnet flakes away with the rust. I can upload pictures if necessary.
I would appreciate any advice as to how to proceed from here.
Thanks

Hi sheltie,

Do you mean how to tackle the rust on a DIY basis, or in dealing further with the manufacturer?

A common weakness in Mazdas around 2002. My 2002 Mazda 323 is rsting in the same places and I've seen quite a few others of the same age with similar afflictions. A real pity given the great reliablity in every other respect. I too got fobbed off by the dealer not least because I haven't had the body condition checked at eac service interval. But I was never invited to have this done even though it would have cost extra. The corrosion guarantee is just a marketing ploy.

I mean are their any other options with dealing with the dealer or does this really mean that the warranty is not worth much.
I am thinking maybe I need to change the car which is a pity as apart from the rust only other issue with the car since bought has been an exhaust bracket apart from discs , pads and tyres. Other than that everything still original.
I have been offered £3000 part ex at a supermarket and have looked at a astra estate or have seen an 2006 Avensis Tourer t180 for £10795 with 38k on the clock but cant decide. Astra estate seems cheap for 6 month old 1.8 sri 8k full bodykit 18" alloys etc for £10k but am tempted by the avensis.
Thanks
