My car is revving by itself whenever power is taken from the car.e.g lights rear de-mister.heaters.brake lights anything

I have plugged it into the diagnostic machine four times now at two separate places,
it keeps coming up as throttle position sensor circuit 2. I have replaced that part twice with second hand parts and yesterday a brand new one from Peugeot and it still has the same problem, also the machine can not turn off the engine management as its a permanent fault apparently.

It also came up with underneath it premanent to ground. I duno if that is the earth or wot?its costing me a fortune taken it to dif places an they charge me and say they dnt no wot it is an they never heard of it.if any1 can help be rlly helpfull cheers

What exact fault-code numbers did they find?

i duno but i remember the throtle sensor cumin up.and under that was somethng saying permenant to ground is it posible i got bad earth?i been to two diagnostic places and both wasted my time and money to buy parts that just clearly aint wot the probelm is.

A bad earth is a distinct possibility - but only one of hundreds.

However; guesswork will get/has got you nowhere and exact data is essential when dealing with these hyper-complex systems.

the hunter,

can you refrain from the 'txt' talk please and use full words. Unlike a mobile phone, you're not limited to 160 characters here. Besides that, quite a lot of people find it off putting and may well simply ignore your postings.

The Hunter, yours could be a simple fix or a complex problem requiring in depth diagnosis.
I would avoid taking it to a garage or workshop that is limited to one type of diagnosis i.e. read codes and then stumped which is where you seem to have been.
A good diagnostic technician will have an array of equipment and in depth knowledge of how to logically diagnose a problem such as yours not starting at the cheapest part and working up toward an ECU.
Maybe if you post a rough geographical location of where you are then one of the tecs on here may be close enough to assist or know someone whom they can recommend (if the moderator allows).

On the VW PD Diesel, if the ECU doesn't get a realistic input from the throttle position sensor it puts the engine into fast tickover mode so the car can limp to a garage.
Maybe the Hdi ECU hs been programmed the same.
Your garage has identified a fault with that sensor.
Although you've replaced the actual sensor the problem could lie further up the wiring loom or at the plug to the ECU, or in the ECU although not likely.
Suggest you get an auto electrician who knows what he is doing to check out the wiring carefully to the throttle position sensor.

My x-reg 306 2.0 hdi has the exact same problem...

Had 3 error codes:

P1521 - Clutch Switch
P0221 - Throttle circuit 2 sensor
P1112 - Fuel Rail Pressure

The fuel one I believe was from when the fuel pump gave up the ghost 2 months back,I had all these codes wiped and the car was fine for 3 weeks (i've covered some 2k miles in that time) however the fault returned yesterday. I did fit some rear speakers this weekend (bad earth somwhere there?)

I've the car booked in to have the bushes changed in 2 & a bit weeks - any ideas of where to source a decent Throttle Circuit or is it a trip to Peugeot to supply?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ta,

Mike

Mike

I doubt that your car has an identical problem; it would be better to have your own thread.

What are your exact symptoms and those over-simplified code definitions will lead you astray. Only P1112 is a serious code.

Nearly all the APP sensor codes [P0221/0121 etc.] on these early HDi's were not the sensor .

Mike,

What causes P0221 codes if not the sensor?
