Our 2000 passatt estate constantly loses pressure from its off side rear, my wife appears unable to check the tyre pressure-ever!, what would cause this? fairly new tyre-less than 5k on it.
Cheers ray

Puncture, porous wheel, bead of tyre not sealing properly, valve not sealing onto rim, valve core loose, etc. Take your pick.

Have the tyre removed and the barcode on the tyre bead removed;o)

I only asked about alloys as I had a brand new Golf, years ago; on that, one wheel went flat and another dropped to about 20 psi and then held that. The problem was 2 porous alloys, repaced under warranty. Hope this helps.

On the alloys front have it checked for roundness. One of my alloys kept letting air out and when checked it was slightly out - the wheel refurb guy says it happens if you bump up (or down) a kerb. Even potholes can do it.

Pour water around the rim any bubbles?

If so a quick fix is to hit the tyre with a mallet to re-seat the tyre, best to remove and clean.

Also this is a bit messy fill your bath with water and put some washing up liguid in it will show up with bubbles!

Alloys are the worst but can be fixed very cheaply, have the tyre removed and get a wire brush in the drill and clean the rim, but remove the ballance weights and the valve,

Then paint the rim where the tyre bead sits, fit new valve refit tyre all should be fine.
