I have a 1991 309 gti which is dark grey and the problem i have is that the lacquer appears to be peeling or faded.
What would be the best way to restore the paint work?
Please help.

Well you start with a bucket of clean water; a rubbing block and a ream of 400 grit wet-or-dry.....

ok, and will it need respraying and lacquering?

Pretty much; once lacquer starts peeling, it's beyond help. Flat it back to the primer; [30 hours] make good - and then respray using the best paint that you can afford.
It's probably been resprayed at some point over the existing lacquer - that's common; but eventually leads to the new coat breaking up in the sunshine.
