96 1.9 rattles from clutch area - stevegee
I have just assembled my clutch and I reused the pressure plate and clutch disc. The affixed thrust bearing did not make any sound so I did not replace it.
However now after 1700 km the clutch wirrs when out of gear at idle and until I put my foot on the pedal and then it stops as the clutch stops rotating.
I hope its the thrust bearing and not the front gearbox bearing.
Any way of finding out?
How bad does the rattle have to get before it fails? is it just the bearing carrier vibrating against the pull in forks?

If its the thrust bearing, the rattle will stop as soon as it touches the pressure plate fingers, if it doesnt stop until the clutch is completely disengaged, sound more like the primary shaft bearing, although they don't usually rattle, more of a 'whirr'
