I placed an order for an Audi A5 3.0 TDi on April 1st. My deealer quoted a delivery time of 10-12 weeks, meaning mid to late June delivery. It is now late June and no car has arrived. I have obtained information that my car is due for manufacture on week 47 (November) and I will not receive this car until early next year now.
I spoke with Audi customer services and they informed me that if there is a delay it is the dealers responsibility to keep the buyer motoring by offering a courtesy car. My existing car is currently for sale and should be sold in a week or so. I then informed the dealer of this and they said that if they had to provide courtesy cars for all the people they have delayed then that would be about 40 cars. I explained I am only worried about myself and my situation. I also asked the sales person when the cars they are delivering now to customers were ordered. He stated January (5 months ago). Audi customer services have logged the case but cannot make the dealer provide me with a courtesy car. I am of the opinion the sales person did lie when making the sale and that there was a longer waiting list than which he stated. Waht I would like to know is the following.
Does anyone else have problems with A5 delivery?
Can I force my dealer to provide a courtesy car based on the fact I have probably signed for a car based on un-realistic delivery dates?

Read your contract, if its the same as VW dealers (same group) then you can cancel your contract with them and get your deposit back. Over 8 months wait for a car is not realistic.
I am sure that the dealer will give you a courtesy car until yours arrive if you tell them you are cancelling your contract.
Personaly, from my experience with VAG, I would get my deposit back and buy a Merc or Lexus (best bet Lexus). Audi's quality is not what it used to be as I am sure others will confirm.

Thanks for the reply. I have a right to cancel if the delivery is over 3 months late. In the meantime I will be pursuing them for a courtesy car and will threaten cancellation of the purchase of the car.
What I don't want to do is end up at the back of the queue for the car if there really is a 9 month wait for them as I don't really like any other alternatives from the other companies mentioned, even though their dealer network maybe superior.
|
Then threaten them with cancellation. I waited nearly 5 months for Golf plus Sportline, ordered end of September, took delivery second week Feb 08. If Audi customer support tell you there is a delay because of a backlog of orders then thats it. Remember that the engines in Audi's and VW are the same (look at the stamp on the engine block) & I know there are some major delays with TSI and new Common Rail engines at the moment.
Not a question of dealer networks as all dealers are generaly the same irrespective of brand .. they want your money & once they have that well, goodluck. My comment was made with regards to product reliability but if your heart is set on an A5 get the A5, its a good looking car.

Seems that VW are going to be having further delay problems in the near future - the German papers report that 30 000 VWs were damaged in a hail storm last weekend with hail stones up to 1 inch in diameter.

I popped into a dealer back in early March to admire the A5 and the salesbod advised me that there was already a 5 month waiting list.
Your dealer may have been a little economic with the truth in order to secure your order.
|
I think they may have been a little economic with he truth. I will chase them up next week when hopefully my current car has sold on ebay. If them give me any trouble I will name and shame them on the forum

I will name and shame them on the forum
Not on this one, you won't.
|
As ifithelps says; don't name and shame or the post will be pulled.

The A5 is a very nice car though, don't see many about. In that segment it would be the one I would have.
A colleague of mine has recently ordered a TT with various options, he's been quoted 5 months delivery.

I started looking at A5's back in Feb08. My local dealer said that they wouldn't be able to get one before Oct 08 (8 months). After checking out a few other dealers I found one who said they could get one by the end of July. They said that other dealers used up their allocation but they still had availability. When I eventually placed the order in April 08 they still said they could get it by end of July. When I said I didn't need it until 1st Sept they said that would be no problem. I waited weeks before I was eventually given a provisional build week 33, which is the middle of Aug. When I spoke to the garage in week 33 they told me that the date was now confirmed, great I thought, but then they said week 35, which is the last week of August. No way will they be able to build and deliver in one week. The garage tried to tell me they had always said week the 35 but I know when I'm being spun a yarn. At least they said they will loan me a car from 1st Sept as my current car goes back at the end of Aug. To say I'm not happy would be an understatement considering I could have got the car locally rather that having to travel 100 mile to get one. Looks like I?m going to have to wait until the end of September before it turns up.

Cancel the car and order a 330d M Sport Coupe instead. It's better built, it's better to drive, and might actually arrive.

"No way will they be able to build and deliver in one week."
You will probably be surprised. My last two A3s have both been built and delivered within about the week. My current car was built on around 20 June last year, I was driving it on the 28th. Audi don't mess about once its off the production line, they can't afford to keep it lying around, same for the dealer.
The only red herring you have been given is the provisional build week. Until the dealer has a confirmed build week they cannot give any detail on when it will be built. My build week came through about 4-6 weeks before the actual date.

1) Better built...I don't think so.
2) It's about to be replaced.
3) It's a BMW.
4) It's a BMW
Who wants that stigma??

2) It's about to be replaced.
Is it?

Sorry, I don't think so..Been driving a 3 series for the past 3 years. Looks very dated now. BMW needs a major revamp of its range.>> Cancel the car and order a 330d M

I have been down the same route myself on a new (old shape) A4 Avant 18 months ago. However I didn't start to sell my old car until I had a very firm date of manufactrue and delivery date off the dealer, which turned out to be 100% accurate.
Okay your car is late, but I wouldn't have acted until I knew this myself.

One of the guys I work with rolled up in an A5 a month or so ago to a customer meeting my colleague who is a self confessed Audi nut was slavering at the car. It's owner then related a tale of woe that he's gone through. Rattles squeaks, various electronic issues mostly still unresolved, if a stone chips it the paint comes off in big lumps as it's been painted twice & this makes it brittle. Latest thing is a squeak from the clutch mech. Just had clutch slave cylinder & that hasn't fixed it, dealer now considering swapping clutch.... Hmmmm Vorsprung Durch Technic has a sour taste for him.....
I deffo know where I'd spend 30K+ & it isn't german!

have had an a3 on order since feb. Has just gone into production.
Should have been a 16 week lead time.
everyone tells me audi are struggling to get a3 and a5 out at the moment.
|
My A5 was built last week and is sitting in the dock waiting to be shipped over. Been told it will be a maximum of 10 days but could be as quick as 3 !!!! I hope it was worth the wait.
