So what is the fault code that they find when they reset?

Is it just that the injectors are worn and are being recalibrated?
02 1.9 glo plug light flashing - indymorg
they dont tell me the code just which injector and in which cylinder and its never the same as last time. then they just recalibrate them and its fine for another month

also the inlet manifold gasket is spraying a mist of oil on the parts beneath it, and before it tripped out the last time, on acceleration it seemed to lose power at 3500 if i backed off the throttle you could catch it at about 3000 then settle in to a steady 2500.
dont know if it helps shed some light

I have had my mondeo for 2 weeks when the glow plug started flashing a loss of power occured. I thought that maybe I need to give the system a clean out and so I bought some injection cleaning adative. a week later the same thing happened again only this time the car cut out completly. It started straight away but since has been very stuttery. I decided to take it in to ford for a diagnostic after reading the forums about this issue. £177 quid and a whole day without a car later they told me that it was the fuel injection pump that had gone. The quoted me £1178 to fit a new fuel pump, filter and rocker gasket. Not happy about this price I decided to see if I could get it sorted cheaper elsewhere. I found a garage who would fit the parts in exchange for some IT work doing so all I needed to find was a cheap pump. After ringing around it seemed that ford actually had the cheapest pump available. (£538 + exchange the old one). The only snag was that ford had said that the pump would coding. It just seemed like one set back after another.

After telling my tale of woe to anyone who would listen I was fortunate enough to have a friend who's friend is a master ford technician. He told me that the 2 codes that had come up could mean a whole series of things and advised me to do the following before I proceeded with replacing the pump:

1)Replace the fuel filter
Its stating the obvious but to be honest I have no idea about cars and welcomed this alternative!
If you are going to do this yourself (as I did) please be aware that it took nearly all day to get the car started again. we kept having to turn the car over until either the starter motor was smoking or until the battery went dead. We were persistent and kept charging the battery and trying but what actually got it started in the end was when we connected up to another car and jumped it.

2) pour the contents of the old fuel filter into a cup and check for flecks of metal.
if this was the case then chances are the rollers in the pump had given up and I would have needed a full flush of the system and the fuel pump fitting. Luckily the fuel was clear.

3) On some Mondeos apparently there is another smaller pump (I think it was called the uplift pump). Follow the fuel lines to locate it and make sure that it was constanlty vibrating whislt the cae was ticking over. I looked for this and I couldn't find it anywhere.

The car seems to have repsonded well to just the fuel filter change. I was told to run it for a couple hundred miles and (fingers crossed) see what happens. I will keep you posted on this one.

I appreciate that this may not be the solution to everyones problem but when your skint it maybe worth a try first!

Aarghh!! You, never, never, never, fit an empty fuel filter to one of these.

They have no tank pump [some TDDi only] and the very best way to destroy the high-pressure pump is to crank it, bone dry, for hours. It also wrecks the starter and the DMF.

The pump isn't coded on a TDCi. The injectors are. Cutting out is usually a failing cam sensor. [Modified one available.]

well the filter is not just the cause. I think I just have to face up to the fact that I have to get a new fuel injection pump.

The garage that said they would do it have backed out of it saying that you need a special tool to cut out all the hassle of taking of cam chains and other random things that I can honestly say I have no idea what are about.

In my desperation I tried to trade the car in. No one would touch it! I am now stuck with what can only be described as an obscene bill for a car that I have only had for 3 weeks! I have had possibly the worst 2 weeks of my life trying to get this car sorted on the cheap but it isn't going to happen.

If anyone from the mondeo development team happen to read this forum then I have only one thing to say to you:

you set of absolute (insert swear word of choice here).

Get out your Yellow Pages, and start phoning diesel specialists. Especially ones that have a 'Delphi' logo in their ad. Ask if they are set up to repair Mondeo common-rail systems.

From what I'm hearing now, a good Delphi specialist is likely to know more about your TDCi fuel system than your local Ford dealer, and their repair charge will probably be lower.

Fingers crossed I may found a solution. I have managed to obtain the tool that makes the job easier and I have my replacement pump on order (total cost £498) its just a case of my dear uncle (mechanic) fitting it for me in exhange for my old laptop.

I am just hoping that there are no hidden pitfalls when having this done. If anyone out there has done this before and can advise on anything we should know then please do!

My one concern is that Ford told me when I bought the pump that I would need it coding. However I have heard conflicting reports on this.

I was looking through the service book and the previous owner had 2 new injectors fitted, new pipes, recoding. I have fitted the filter and found that there was no metal flex contaminating the fuel. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Think I may have it fixed and sell it in favour of a skateboard!

The fuel injection pump has been fitted. It was an easy enough installation until it came 3 torque screws holding the pump in place! The problem with them is that they are quite deep in these tiny holes. Luckily we found some 50mm torque bits from maplin that did the job.

I just hope that this has solved the problem, I have driven in to work this morning and it seemed ok, I am not a religious man but I will be praying that it's truly fixed!

fingers crosed, Amen!

i went to a delphy diesel specialist to have my injectors re set. i gave them a good grilling on the subject, they say they have loads in to be done but nobody can truely say what the trouble is delphy say they dont know of any issues with fords so i dont no what planet they are on, ford will only say that if the same injector keeps tripping then a replacement will cure it. but i think thats krap i know a guy who had a new set and his still does it. i think maybe software parameters are set to tight. some times mine would do 12000 mile before it would trip again. cant be much if it takes 12000 mile before it goes again. somtimes i have done a 1000 mile with the light flashing because its gone within 3000, and its the only time i dont have to worry about it going. also delphy guy was told that there is a software update for the ijectors but when he asked they denied it ?

Whoopee Do!

I have done just 150 miles with the new injection pump and low and behold the flipping light is back. This time however it just stays flashing constantly, even the old switch on and off routine is no longer working. I fully believe that this car is cursed!

back to the drawing board!

noluck

I think you went in a bit too quick there; with no corroboration from metal swarf in the filter, there was nothing to support the dealers suggestion of it being the pump.

Get the codes re-read and see what comes up now.
02 1.9 130 TDCi glow plug light flashing - noluckwithcars
oh dear!

Well I was going to take it to the garage to get the codes, tried to start the thing and Nothing. After about the 10th go it spluttered into life coughing tons of black smoke out. The smoke was then quite thick and blue. I tried to move forward in it and it just spluttered forward. I don't fancy taking any chances as I doubt I would get to the garage!

I guess more reading to solve this issue is needed. After this I am getting rid, I just can't trust this car anymore!
