It was reported on BBC Look North West today that Roger Jones, the champion of the congestion charge for Greater Manchester, who lost his seat in the recent local elections, is to ask the Police to investigate Peel Holdings. He alleges that they spent thousands of pounds on a survey about congestion charging and villified him.

He must think that voters were in favour of such a charge until Peel Holdings exercised their minds.

What an absolute loser! Peel can spend millions if they want. They are not a political party, public broadcaster or charity, so there is not restriction on them doing what they did, something which Trade Unions, gangs of rabble and big business have done for years.

I think I'm right in thinking Peel Holdings own (amongst other things like the ship canal and land either side) the Trafford Centre. So it would be in their interest to investigate wouldn't they? But hardly illegal.
I live just inside what might habve been the congestion zone so hope it does not happen now.

If he feels they villified him, he should sue.
The Police should charge him with wasting police time:-)
I understand he's complaining about free speech and democracy.....
Edit: It will concentrate the minds of all politicians...

It will concentrate the minds of all politicians...
The whole problem with that species is that their minds are all too concentrated, but not on the sort of things human beings can easily understand. It's a sort of parallel universe for the most part.

it really is irritating isn't it...these clowns convince themselves they know best and that we, the electorate, are poor simple souls who need them to think for us..
but... when there's a protest vote, in this case most likely against the specific issue of the congestion charge, (backed up by central politics)...then there's a blame someone else culture, couldn't possibly be him or his ideas?
He can't seem to understand it, when it's glaringly obvious... so who's the poor simple soul now?

This was discussed on 'You & Yours' (Radio 4) lunchtime today.
One of the comments made was about '...the difficulty of convincing the electorate...' (of the need for a congestion charge).
The pro-congestion charge people had obviously adopted a mindset that the congestion charge was the right thing to do but they were being prevented from carrying out their righteous duty by the pesky electorate.
Let's hope that over the next couple of years we, as the motoring electorate, get up off our knees and and do the same thing about fuel duty & excise duty! It CAN be done: as in the case of Roger Jones!

Only by getting rid of the whole lot (of all colours) and replacing them with our own- I reckon we're stuck with it, the best we can do is try to influence the rate of increase (which I reckon is possible)... Our MPs are so protected from real life with the massive salary and added perks that they just don't appreciate how expensive things are - otherwise why on earh would they think that inflation is really below 3%!!!!!!!!!!
