The central locking system has stopped flashing the indicators when I lock the car.
The normal procedure would be to press twice, one to lock and another press to deadlock.
The car still appears to lock correctly, which I can ascertain by trying the handles.
On unlocking the car, the indicators flash as normal.
Should I just live with this as all seems to be working, or should I investigate the solenoids etc. in the door locks.
( I've had a look where the wiring loom goes from the body to the doors in case of corrosion on the plugs, but there are no plugs on the car. )
Any suggestions please.

Hi again,
You've gathered by now that I've the same car.
Unlocking I get the flashing indicators.
Press the lock button and it locks without the indicators.
Press twice and the indicators show.
Hope there isn't a major problem.

Thanks for that.
Thing is that its just started to do it. Usually the indicators flash on the first click.
Might be a partially sticking lock. I'll get going with the wd and see what happens.

If there is nothing obvious, I would suggest a "reboot"...ie...remove either the fuse to the Central Locking or disconnect the battery for a few minutes ( Making sure that you have the Security Code for the radio)....then reconnect.
I have to do this every time I renew the Key Fob batteries (Mondeo TD) as my Central Locking Remote always fails after changing them.

Chas,
Thanks for your comment, but the locking works every time, in that all the locks operate and mechanically lock the car. The problem is that the indicators do not flash, ( which confirms locking ) until I press again. Then to deadlock I need to press a third time.
I'm living with it at present. I'll see how it goes.

The handbook says you have to hit the button twice to activate the deadlock I think - certainly on my Focus the indicator light will flash twice when you do this, although the car will lock without flashing on one click.
There are 33 pages in Ford`s handbook on locking systems (there appear to be at least four different versions).
This item was clearly designed by a committee which could agree on very little.
I don`t think you really have a big probem. Mine sometimes won`t lock/unlock without lots of clicking - maybe the battery is flat.
Try a Renault, they seem to be much simpler. (an autocrat in charge?)

When my Mondeo returned from its MOT I had the same problem. All the doors locked but no visual flash from the indicators. It turned out the bonnet was'nt fastened securely.
|
On my Focus2, the indicators only flash after the car is successfully deadlocked. Therefore a failure to flash could be that the doors initially lock OK, but then one of the doors fails to deadlock.
|
Sounds like a failed lock. My X type had similar fault, it also had a "door open" warning on all the time.
The car would still lock, but would not deadlock as the car thought the door was still open. A new lock sorted the problem.
