My Getz is due its third service shortly. I bought it with 3years free servicing. Last year its second service, when I went to collect it I was handed no paperwork only my stamped service book. I received no "service check list" to confirm that the necessary parts had been actualy checked. The dealer also gives a free basic valet , this had not been done. A couple of days later I went to wash the car and found the rearwiper blade torn, so this had obviously not been checked during the service. This has left me with no confidence in the garage. They have just phoned now asking if they can do this years service. I told the person that I was not happy with last years service and the reasons why. He said that they do not give service check lists out on Hyundai cars but if I want one he will give me one. He said customers in some case do not want the extra paperwork. Have other contributors not received "service check lists" after having their cars serviced? Is this the norm nowadays?

I don't ever recall getting a service checklist but I do recall getting a pre-delivery inspection checklist with several new cars until my new Hyundai i.30, for which I did not. The dealer tells me P.D.I. checklists are kept on site. Maybe a Hyundai thing?

I cannot beleive you have never had a check list with all the cars you seem to have had.
Up until now, of all the cars I have had (about 10 and 28 years of motoring) I have always received a check list on completion of service.

I have owned a few Hyundais and I have always been given a checklist, as ticked by the technician whilst servicing. It took the form of a grid with the service items in the left column (marked check, clean, replace etc) and a mileage/age row at the top. The corresponding boxes marked with a tick when completed. There was also a bodywork condition sheet, too. The valet thing varied from dealer to dealer in my experience some did, most didn't.
The Mazda we have now doesn't even have a service book, it is all "electronic"!

I've always had a tick list - handy to know exactly what is included in the 10k or 20k service and how much tyre tread depth you have left.
It is something I like to keep and pass on when I sell the car.

Hi If Mazda has an electronic serviceing record, what happens if the owner wants to sell the car on privately. How do you prove to a buyer the service history? I have a Mazda also. I take it to a an independent garage. He and all garages I have been to always gave a ticked check list. This shows all the tread depths plus any other conditions which he feels should be brought to my attention. It gives me more confidence that the necessary parts have been checked.

Don't know what the score is with the service record and selling it on, other than holding the receipts for the services. It's not entirely my problem as it is the wife's car :-)

Last year when I took my car for its second service to a main dealer I was not given a "service check list" which should show all the items checked with the appropriate tick boxes. A couple of days later when I went to wash the car I found the rear wiper torn. This means to me that they had not checked the car properly. This year I took the car to another main dealer. I asked if they gave a "service check list" they said they did not unless asked for one. I asked them to service the car and for the check list. I then asked them how does the technician, without a check list to tick, know which parts they had completed. The answer was that they did not need one because they had been servicing this particular make of car for so long now they knew what they were doing.
My feelings are that this is very slapdash. What if they are interupted or for some reason forget what they have done. I find this worrying. Is this the way all main dfealers are going? From now on I will start taking this car to the local garage. He does the work on my older car. He always gives a checklist and he is far cheaper. I know I have a 5 year warranty but he has assured me that taking my car to him will not infringe the warranty.

I have seen cars go in for service some youngster changes the oil fills the washer bottle and thats your lot apart from a mega bill .If anything goes wrong at a later date you take it back and they fix it through warranty, servicing is the biggest cash cow main dealers have and most abuse it.

Do you have proof that most main dealers "abuse" it, or are you just rumour-mongering?
