A rather alarming knocking has started happening from the front right corner of the car. It becomes noticable at about 60 and loud at 75. A kind of wup wup wup wup that gets faster and faster with the speed of the car. I can feel it through the pedals.
Timing couldn't be worse I'm driving across Europe on Sunday so I have to take it to the dealer asap but what could it be and how will it hurt my wallet
Regards

Look carefully at the tyres first, then the driveshaft boots. If you can feel the vibration it's probably the RH driveshaft intermediate bearing - but have a look first to see if the bearing housing has come loose. The fixing of these is a little "casual".

Cheers FBE
Tyres are brand new and no obvious bulges or anything loose
If it's a bearing is this a big job for a main dealer or am I looking at a cancelled holiday?

Tightening a loose bearing housing is easy if there is no damage. The bolts have special heads which turn through 90 degrees to lock - check they are correctly located if they have been loose.
Replacing the bearing is a driveshaft out job I'm afraid - not quick or particularly easy. Make sure you know exactly what's loose before any major work is done.

Did you have the noise before the new tyres. ???? Regards Peter

"but have a look first to see if the bearing housing has come loose"
Great advice, wrong location it was the under tray, 2 sheared bolts allowing it to buffet in the wind. Problem solved.
Peter the tyres have been on for two weeks and the noise started suddenly yesterday on a dual carriageway. Perhaps I hit something or perhaps they weren't tightened up properly when they replaced the fans last week.
Very grateful and much relieved
