2004 1600cc,16valve,starter motor - potatohead
Having sorted out the indicators on my car I'm now having intermittent starting probs.Every now and again(and up till now its only been the first start of the day)the starter motor spins but then stops spinning with a horrible screech/crunch,engine not starting.Engine always starts second time..up till now.Any clues,anyone?Is this a sign of impending starter failure,and does anyone know whether the replacement is a standard "remove cable,bolt off,bolt on, cable on"or something horribly complicated and home mechanic unfriendly?
And...does anyone know where I can get a manual for this model,as Haynes arent doing one yet?Not the owners handbook,which Ive already got but which only gives basic info.

Sounds like you need to take a look at that starter urgently - maybe the over-speed clutch is going.

The starter should be fairly standard - access is a bit tight though.

Cheers,problem is only intermittent at present(hasnt happened today,as yet) but Ive priced a replacement unit just in case.
