im looking for a tube of repair epoxy for the toolbox incase i need to make to odd tempory repair/bodge

the 2 that spring to mind are chemical metal and jb weld..theyve both been around a while , but while trawling the shops i saw a few others that claim to be 1000times stronger that steel and all that b.s

so , any suggestions on what repair epoxy is good and whats not?

Any that doesn't claim to be 1000x stronger, etc, I should think!

If it's for occasional emergency use, the dual syringe packages seem to be a good and relatively unmessy storage method. Long-cure epoxies like standard Araldite should be the strongest, but the quick setting ones are a lot more convenient.

B&Q used to market a two-pack polyurethane adhesive that was probably the stickiest substance known to man, when mixed. It was more resilient than epoxy (and foamed up slightly, making it a better gap-filler), but it seems to have disappeared from our local branch. If you can find it, I recommend it.

JB Weld is the best I've found for high temperature resistance. They claim it is good enough for a cylinder block (obviously non combustion chamber). But all the good ones take about 24 hours to reach maximum strength and the real key to success is cleaning the surfaces to be joined within an inch of their lives.

So no good for hurried jobs.

Again, its not a "rapid" answer but can recommend quiksteel from experience.

I got some loctite "super steel" from ebay and very happy with the stuff when I've needed it.
I'd also chuck some of those alcohol wipes in the toolbox as well - someone mentioned the parts have to be clean and grease free - this is true.

JB Weld 24 hour is the best, all the places that used to sell it have stopped and seemed to be locked into one adhesive supplier, we use JB Weld at word for security entrapments and it really is much better than the others. The last time, I got some off ebay.
