I have noticed many people driving with a little yapper sitting on their lap,(most seem to be elderly retired hat wearing folk) and the dogs paws on the steering wheel, where do these people leave their brain cell.
Is this a common occurance or just around Surrey and London
I had an encounter, with a lorry driver, who couldn't see his wing mirrors because of said dog, whilst driving on the north circular, and he therefore couldn't see my indicators - he did however see what I thought of him !!
I hope when they cause an accident- they are banned for LIFE, but will probably get away with 3 pts and a 30 fine

I've a neighbour who drives his Merc. like this, and I had to swerve the other day to avoid a blonde, sunglasses on top of head, 'rat on a rope' in her lap. I was sorely tempted to pass her and give her a brake test, but self preservation clicked in.

I used to sometimes have a spaniel (in one of those dog harness seat belt things) on the front passenger seat of a LHD 911. Always amusing to see the double takes from people noticing the dog driving, I was quite tempted to get a stick on kiddies steering wheel when 1st daughter arrived and took the space in the toddler seat. Alas daughter 2 arrived and it failed the practicality test.

It sounds as if you do it to some people though.

IMHO people like this, along with the mobile phone users who don't recognise the potential dangers of not concentrating on the road, don't have the correct psyche to be driving in today's crowded traffic conditions.

If the airbag went off, the dog's bones would surely poke out into the driver? Gross!

Wonder what happens if said dog decides to take a leak! ;-)

I have noticed many people driving with a little yapper sitting on their lap ......
I'll believe "one or two", but not "many"!

Springer sits in the back of the Roomster without resorting to a dog-guard, new cocker found his way past the very expensive Skoda fitted dog-guard....50p piece of hardboard had be inserted to prevent this.

Would it be OK if it were an Air(bag)dale terrier?

The worst are the ones with the girlfriend on their lap.

I see 'the snail's' in cheerful mood.
My old granny used to say "if you can't say anything nice, say nothing".

A few years ago I overtook a saloon car (doing 60 in the middle lane)on the M40, which had a large white cockatoo fluttering around inside. Distracting in the extreme...!

Nice one, PU
Seriously, I see this occasionally. I think it's fair to say that any traffic officer (or indeed local policing) who notice this will act. A charge would be discretionary, but, I believe, quite likely.
"Failing to be in proper control of a vehicle" would fit the bill nicely

Many years ago, when moving house, my dad was driving down to Devon from Manchester with the cat in a box in the back of the car. Shortly into the journey, the cat escaped from the box and climbed onto his shoulder. She spent the next 4 hours sitting there, gazing out of the window at passing cars...
He said he got some funny looks from other drivers!
