they're building a new supermarket along the road and have installed a pedestrian crossing and two new bus stops. The bus stops are not laybys just painted markings on, what is, quite a narrow road. The trouble (as I see it) is both stops are within the zigzag areas on each side of the crossing, the yellow bus stop 'box' begins about a foot or so from the actual crossing zone - this can't be right surely?

Is the road a Supermarket lead in and not considered to be a 'road' under RTActs whereby Traffic regulation orders are not made?
If it is a road then this will apply:
The Pelican Pedestrian Crossings Regulations and General Directions 1987
14.?(1) A vehicle shall not by regulation 12 (prohibits stopping in the Zig Zags) be prevented from stopping in a "Pelican" controlled area (zig zags)-
(b) if the vehicle is a public service vehicle being used-
(i) in the provision of a service which is a local service within the meaning of the Transport Act 1985; or
(ii) to carry passengers for hire or reward at separate fare otherwise than in the provision of a local service,
but excluding in each case any such vehicle being used on an excursion or tour, and the vehicle is waiting, after having proceeded past the "Pelican" crossing in relation to which the "Pelican" controlled area is indicated, in order to take up or set down passengers.
Note for obvious reasons the bus stop has to be AFTER the foot crossing point.

it's on the main road through the industrial estate - the way its been laid out it just looks like an accident site waiting for custom.

if theres a supermarket involved the council will try to get them to pay for improvments,. seen zig zag lines just a metre long , to accommodate a bus stop. IT probably needs a central refuse opposite bus stop to prevent overtaking, the bus drivers have probaly reported it to your council, but they want somebody to die first, so it makes their figures look as though its money well spent . then they can put some more humps in as well

I asked exactly the same question about 2 years ago! But at a different location (East Barnet, Herts)

I suspect it will take a fatal accident to get it changed. Will not reflect well on the muppet who was responsible for the road layout design either.
