I was on a train yesterday and there was a week old copy of Motor Cycle News (MCN) lying on the seat next to me. There was an article about high mileages in it. In addition to the usual mileage covered by a vehicle half the article was the mileage covered by a person. I have not noticed the latter appearing (doubtless I will be told if I am wrong) and thought it would be an interesting thread.
I have not done any massive mileages but here they are as a starter for interstellar mileage:-
a) In a day - 570 miles,
b) In a week - 2620 miles,
c) In six months - 15,000 approx,
d) In a year - 25,000 approx.

I'm sure some of the real pro's have done more than this but for me the longest single drive I have done alone was in 1982. That is to say without a rest other than fuel stops and the necessary use of the hovercraft. Florence to Liverpool approx 1100 miles. Started out about 5.00 AM on a Friday and reached my destination ( GFs flat ) at about 10.00 PM same day. I'd love to romanticise it by telling you it was in some sexy car but the reality was that it was a 2.0 Cortina !

Can't imagine why anyone else would be remotely interested but I'll tell you anyway !
The other half of the above tale was that I then did the return journey to Florence on the Monday. I had told my boss that I was out doing supplier visits on the Friday and the Monday and needed one of the company cars to do this. Would have been majorly awkward if it had been nicked in Liverpool !

Regular Dresden to Leeds via Dover 950miles with only P, bun and fuel stops and of course the time on the ferry normally around 22hours.

Day - 700 (in Swaziland/RSA in 1980 - took ALL day and some of the following morning, none on dual carriageway and where possible (not all roads smooth enough) at speeds which would have result in immediate imprisonment over there!)
Week - 1500
Year - 37000 (mostly private visiting MIL fortnightly since BIL who normally lives with her was at sea near Iraq)
I once managed 9 weeks between 10k services on a Vectra diesel!

on my own in a day - 653, Cornwall to Tayside. I was on holiday with the family when I was called back to work to help with a crisis. So I did this trip four times in a fortnight ie 653 with the family to go on holiday, after a week back to Scotland on my own on the Sunday, back to Corwall on the Friday again on my own and then back to Scotland with the family on the Sunday again. I was a tad tired after that.
Did 40K miles in a Pug 405 1.9 diesel in the last 9 months of my time as a field service engineer covering Scotland.

I regularly drive from York to Bromley (S London) and then back in the same day. We have an office there that I sometimes need to spend the day at, so will leave York at 4am ish, be down there for 8 then leave again at 6 and be up here again for 10. That is about 550 miles. I did this yesterday in fact!
I have been known to do that twice in a week along with other journeys easily taking me to and sometimes beyond 1500 miles in a week. I can then keep that up quite happily over a period of time and cover 50k in a year. It all depends on work really sometimes I will do 250 miles in a week (just commuting home to office 25 miles each way) and other times I will do 5 times that or even more.
I think the most I've ever done in one journey is London to Elgin just north of Inverness. not sure how many miles that is but took a long time I remember!
I got a my current car at the end of December 06, it is now on 35k despite me being without it for 3 months of the year due to various loan cars that I had available to try and keep the mileage down (as it is on a contract hire agreement with limited mileage).
On reading other posts, I feel I should note that I'm not even a sales rep!

In the days of the tax breaks at 2,500 and 18,000 miles, I'd just been given a company car a month before the end of the tax year. I managed to drive instead of fly to a business meeting in Prague - about 900 miles each way. My wife came too so we spelled each other at the wheel - out one day and back the next.
The car was nicely run in afterwards too!
