04 Passenger window problem - geoff5541
I have a 2004 Mazda6 Diesel estate which I bought about a year ago. In the summer I noticed that the passenger windows tended to stick and were difficult to open. I assumed this was due to lack of use as they were not often used. I have been careful not to continue to hold the switch if the window is stuck. Following the last service (coincidently?) I have found that none of the passenger windows will open at all. There is also no sound from the motors. I have tried to change the 30 amp fuse but I'm not sure whether it's blown. Does anyone know how to get these fuses out?

Is that the fuse that's out on it's own underneath the relays? Is it a green Pacific fuse - a clear-plastic topped rectangular block type?

Thanks for the response.
The fuse is in on the left side of the passenger seat footwell compartment. It's a pink square fuse with 30A on it, not the normal rectangular block type.

Sorry; didn't exlain that well. Is it out of the normal rows of fuses, on it's own, in that fusebox?

Does it have a clear plastic top and is the little metal link in the centre blown?

They just pull out.

I'm making progress! Thanks for the advice. I had tried to pull the fuse out but the rest of the car seemed to be coming with it so I thought there might be a special trick involved. Anyway following your advice I pulled a bit harder and out it popped. At least I can see now that the link is still intact but that makes the window operation problem more difficult to solve. Any ideas?

That's a pity; that was the passenger windows fuse, so fitted nicely. [Driver's window is fuse 15.]

There is another electric window fuse in the underbonnet box - number 25. It should feed the whole system, so not obviously a candidate; but....

The window switch panel is always a weak spot on all Mazdas; so testing it's outputs is the next step. Does it's rear cut-off button move normally?

All the switches seem to work normally. I'm not sure what you mean by the rear cut-off button. I'll have to check further tomorrow.

I sit in so many different cars that they all end up a blur. I had an idea that the 6 has a button on the switch panel that disables the rear[?] windows to stop the brats from guillotining each other?

Does it feel normal?

Coincidentally, SWMBO complained to me that the front passenger electric window on our Mazda 323 had failed and gave me one of her looks when I suggested that she might have 'accidentally' pressed the disable button. She had, as it happens, but I still got the blame as it must have been me......my guess is the 6 has a similar facility

I'm almost too embarrassed to admit it. I must have hit the cut off button be mistake. I don't use the power lock and didn't even know it was there. Our kids have grown up an left us long ago. All windows now functioning but still a bit sticky. Thanks everyone for your help.
