Hi All,
I would really appreciate your help i have a 1998 ford escort gti which has started to develop a problem with the drivers lock,
When you dead lock the car it seems to jam the drivers lock and wont open and if i try and open it from the passenger side the central locking goes crazy.
It seems to be fine if i just lock it without activating the dead locking system if that makes any sense. i would really appreciate any help before i strip the door down as don't really know what to look for.
Thanks in advance,
Maretz

Could be dodgy connections to one of the locks, probably drivers door, these tend to be the culprit as they get the most use.The car may be seeing a door as not shut properly even though it is.Look for corrosion or damp getting into the lock connection, try cleaning with contact cleaner, otherwise it may need a new lock motor. You will have to strip the door card off and cut the membrane, tape up after, unless someone's been in there before.

It's worth trying a generous squirt of WD40 or similar into the keyholes. It's worked for me in the past.

Thanks for the replies the first thing i tried was the good old WD-40 but unfortunaley it hasn't worked.
But will try giving it all a good clean and a spray inside and see if that helps coz one day it will probably jam solid.

Me too, sort of...I've a '98 petrol LX and the central locking usually operates normally (driver side) but sometimes when the key turns you hear both front and rear locks turn over but no unlocking follows....

(just seen the 'take the fuse out' idea in another post- worth a try...if I ever get back in again, that is)
