My 2003 Mondeo Ghia had the grey plastic aux-in socket on the right of the glovebox. It sounds like yours is missing this. Sure it can only be a connector that goes to the rear of the stereo.
Maybe as yours is a 2007 (i.e. end of product line) car they ran out of the connectors and fitted a grommet instead? You might find all you need is this part and fit yourself.
Note if you do this you may find you need to enable this on the stereo.

You'd be suprised what little bits got left off the last of the Mk III Mondeos, Mine's a 2005 and although I do have the Aux socket, there are front footwell light sockets with bulbs ommited and no blanking plugs covering the screws in the door handles. Trivial I know but is it a lapse in quality control or penny pinching ?

Interesting. I never knew those were there. Do they actually work if bulbs are inserted? (Mine is also a Zetec and I have to say the interior lighting ain't all that)

Yes- the footwell lights do work. Just installed them on my 05 LX!

Excellent - If I can rig mine up, I'll be able to see what I have trod in more clearly!
Also will be able to spot the coins you always find in the footwells...

I find orange side repeater bulbs in there give it a bit of ambience.;0)

Well I'm damned! Hey presto and 2x 5w wedge bulbs later, footwell lights. I hope it was worth the, ooh, all of 20p per car that they will have saved, taking bulk discount into account...

Don't forget that sometimes cars are made to different specs for different countries in the same factory. Have you seen blanking plates on other Mondeos?
Although it is entirely possible for it to be left off by mistake as well.
Also I remember another car where an interior bulb was removed by dealer due to their habit of leaving cars on forecourt with doors open, so perhaps the dealer had removed it..
Anyhow will check my mk3 as well for these footwell lights.

It certainly does seem to vary. My 06 Ghia X has the full lighting, screw caps and engine cover the whole lot.
Maybe I was lucky but owners have reported varying equipment fitted regardless of model and year. Very odd.

Sorry to resurrect this one after a week - I've been away.
Anyhow I have an 06 1.8 LX Mondeo.
No blanking plugs on the screws either, but since they are black on black plastic and recessed, you can hardly notice them.
Lights in footwells - Cannot find any sort of light fitting or cable in the footwell. Only a slotted hole for the lower cabin air flow, no other recesses at all. Where should the footwell lights be located? The 2005 manual mentions footwell bulbs, but sounds like this may only have been fitted on Zetec or ghia models.

Saltrampen,
If you look at the post from Tony Obrien above he stated that he has installed the bulbs on his 2005 LX. So it sounds like yours should have them and it is not a spec level option.

Hopefully, but if someone can tell me where I should be looking, I'll see what is actually there. The Side footwell trim is flat apart from the holes for airflow, so unless it is buried up in the dash high up, I am at a loss to find them!

Hi Saltrampen,
Sorry to be so long replying but I've been away.
The sockets for the footwell lights are sited midway along the footwell (as far as I can remember). and at the lowest point. i.e. not high up. They are for the 501 type bulb.
The easiest one to see is in the passenger side.
