Dangerous overtaking mirrors - bell boy
Had the displeasure to do 120 miles today in a ka on nearly all busy motorways, now the car was fine, they seem to love sticking at 70 mph and i did it with £10 of petrol and some left......but............. those door mirrors are plain bonkers too small and because they have rounded edges they are difficult to catch cars in your blind spot specifically a car moving from lane 3 to lane 2 if i was in lane 1 and wanting to overtake a slower vehicle, they must have caused more crashes in their time for style over substance. 3/10 from me.
The only mirrrors that i can think of as as bad in the last 20 years ish are the ones on fiat cinquentos............unless you know different?

my new c4 grand piccasso has excellent over taking mirrors. a strange shape but no blind spots at all. the best mirrors ive had on any car

Interesting observation, bb. I can't say I've ever noticed, but I don't often drive on dual carriageways in my Ka, and when I do, I rarely try to overtake anything. Sounds like I ought to continue that policy :-)

Anyway, thanks for pointer - forewarned is forearmed.

Are they the same mirrors that appeared on early Mondeos and late Escorts ?

Wonderfully large mirrors on the Skoda btw.

The mirrors on my 6 year old Ka are fine. Are yours adjusted correctly?

My wife has a Ford Ka which, since I sold my own car, is presently my daily transport. The Ka itself is not bad to drive but I agree about the mirrors they are ridiculously small.

They must be fine for applying lippy in emergencies or they wouldn't have sold so many

Friends door mirror is broken into six pieces and has been for quite a while, asked him once why he hadn't had it repaired, and he said he actually prefered it,(once he had got used to it) because each fragment covered a slightly different area of road behind, and had virtually eliminated the blind spot he used to forget about! for him it was safer!.

Would not be without a stick on Paddy Hopkirk or similar mirror it is far better for picking up overtakers in what is otherwise a blind spot,I still have one as the so called wide angle section on the offside mirror is nothing like as effective,I also have one on my scooter and previously on motorcycles, saves a lot of head twisting.

Me neither - for years they were essential on the repmobile Cavalier / Sierra / 405 / Mondeo / 406's that I drove - being able to change lane with confidence makes motorway driving *so* much easier.

However now I have my own car, a Mercedes C Class, it doesn't need them. The mirror isn't obviously curved, but there's simply no blind spot. Just one of those little things that MB seems to manage where others can't.

Overtaking mirrors? New one on me :-)

Stupidly small mirrors seems to be a Ford policy. All the Mondeos I have ever driven have had undersized mirrors. Don't know if that applies to the current model though.
Dangerous overtaking mirrors - Leif
Well I maintain that it is not the size but how you use it that matters ... works for me ...

And I have a mirror spider so what more do you need.

when i they going to realise, small cars need big mirrors. best thing i did was to put combo van mirrors on to my corsa b. straight swap, made a great difference.

Ka mirrors look like they were bits from the 80's, perhaps they are old fiesta parts ?

I have a problem on the A4. Being tall I sit quite far back and the mirror does not adjust enough. Turning my head to look in the blind spot not much help as I get an eyefu of door pillar. Stick-on wide angle thingy solves the problem.
