Motorpoint warranty - Xileno {P}
Hello

I think this has popped up before - I did a Forum Search (promise!) but couldn't find the answer to my query. Maybe some knowledgeable person can answer it.
If I were to buy a new car from Motorpoint, how does the warranty work?
The first year is presumably manufacturer backed, so would I take it back to a main dealer?
What about years 2 and 3?
Thanks in advance.

Depends on the car.
If it is Jap then a full 3 year manufacturers warranty.
If it is a european import then I think it is yr1 manufacturer and then your on your own because UK dealers provide yr 2& 3.

Most MP "new cars" are imports. The warranty started when it was PDI d in Cyprus, Malta or wherever. Say 2 mths to get to the UK and you have the balance of the 2 year warranty only - that assumes you buy it fresh off the boat - it could have been laid up in a compound for months.

You would take the car to the Franchise for warranty work - however the UK franchises sometimes drag their feet over Grey imports and give some hassle. However under EU Regs they have to cover the warranty. EU warranty is often less than UK - e.g Honda UK is commonly 3 yrs 90,000mls - EU 2 yrs 60,000mls.

Subaru were reported to have made a song and dance saying things about cover cars on car imports via Malta (about 12 months ago) and retracted this within days. Subaru cover the warranty but the franchise I spoke to said you had to service the car every 3 months not annually!! -My son walked away and bought another make.

Warranty on cars sourced from dealers within the EU has to be applied acording to UK terms and conditions - this is applied in law through the Block Exemption Regulation (BER) (Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1400-2002 of 31 July 2002). If your dealer refuses a warranty claim then report them to the OFT. Do a 'Google' for BER and print out the relevant section and take it to your dealer - I bet they soon back down.

The bit about Malta-sourced Subaru's having to be serviced every 3 months is nonsense. In the Maltese service books there is an 'optional' 6-month service coupon - this is for cars operated in hot and 'severe' conditions. It does not have to be stamped to maintain warranty - just undertake servicing as per UK-sourced cars. Note that Subaru's are a little strange in that they require a 1000-mile 'running in' service. The cars are built to the same spec., by the same people on the same production lines as UK cars.

We brought my wifes Seat Altea from Motorpoint and on the whole it has been an OK experience as we saved £3000 over one from a local dealer (even against cars that we also in worst condition)

Plus was every thing was sorted out over the phone all I had to do was bring my deposit and sign and take the car away. Our car was 6 months old and had done 9k miles and was in good condition. (as described)

Down side read carefully - before you part with the cash make sure you have both sets of keys as only one was supplied to us and it took 4 months for the master one to turn up !! and only after the C/Locking went wrong and they needed the master to reprogram the thing.

Second thing make sure that the service book if it needs a PDI stamp has one - as two seat dealers refused to work on the car as it hadn't had a PDI but gone straight to a rental fleet.

one other thing their "master valet" @ £75 is basically two minutes of Jet Wash or it was on mine - save that money have a nice meal and take it round the corner to Morrisons Jet wash !!

I would recomend MP as they didn't walk away from our problems and would buy their again
