Does anyone know of a Japanese specialist, or particualrly Toyota breakers yard in the South London/Surrey area.
I'm based Sutton/Croydon/Epsom area if it helps.
i know breakers are getting thinner on the ground, and jap parts seem particuallry difficult to get in breakers yards - any idea why ?
(I am finding some breakers starting to charge a lot for the parts as well, sometimes not worth having 2nd hand - why ?)

The only one I know anywhere near you.

If you require any directions ( or landmarks that are not on maps) just ask.
From you, in simple terms it is about a mile before Hatton Cross tube station.
I have not visited it since it upgraded ( to Japanese only) from a traditional breakers yard with a lady in a caravan that really knew the trade.

What parts are you looking for and for what toyota?

I have a 1994 Corolla and 195 Celica convertible.
Not looking for anything speciifc at the mo, just like to know where I can get bits when I need to, as they're getting abit old to be buying parts atmain-dealer prices now, as motor-factors hardly ever stock anything I need, and its usuallyonly 5/10% cheaper than maindealer.

A lot of Jap cars are exported, particularly to Africa - for example, you can get £500 for any complete Hiace

You may find that Japanese car parts specialists in New Zealand are the answer. Air freight only takes a couple of days, the exchange rate is in your favour, and NZ is the largest (AFAIK) importer of used Japanese cars. We've had them here in serious quantities (about 75% of the vehicle fleet) for over twenty years, and because we don't salt the roads they last (nearly) for ever. A Google search for "Toyota parts online" gives about 136,000 pages from NZ.

Yes, NZ is a good source of parts, but shipping cost can be high for larger parts. Also try dealers in NZ for new parts at lower prices than your local UK dealer (e.g. Kempy's for Mitsubishi). I have had a number of new Mitsi parts shipped over and airmail from NZ is very quick.
Also think about Aus. I once bought a new complete carpet for a Toyota Celica from a dealer in Australia for less than it was at my local dealer (including shipping).
I have tended to keep clear of UK breakers in the last few years - some are now very expensive and once or twice they've tried to 'sucker' me by quoting prices at, or near, new part prices.

G. W. Bridges in Pease Pottage near Crawley are the largest vehicle dismantlers in the country.
They are little out of your area and not particularly Jap specialists . They usually have over 5000 vehicles on site.
They are just 5 miles or so over the border into West Sussex with a massive yard off J11 of the M23 . Always worth a try.
