Whilst lubricating the lock mech on the Mondeo I noticed that the catch/remote locking motor on the trailing edge of the door is internally connected to the exterior door handle (in addition to the pull lever etc) by a lump of plastic, this is not serving any structural purpose because it is clipped to the catch mech and is loosely fixed to the back of the handle.
I just wonder why it is there? I guess it facilitates manufacture when new allowing a pre-assembled handle and catch to be fitted into the door. Any ideas?
