Primastar lwb van - Common faults at 3 years old. - Hugo {P}
My primastar lwb van has neary come to the end of its warranty and if possible I would like to catch any minor issues that may come to light after the warranty - as they are prone to do, before it expires.

What should I be looking out for on a 54 reg primastar with low miles?

Thanks

Get itMOTd early - that may pick up a few faults. You can have it done up to 30 days before it is due which, presumably, will be 30 days before the warranty expires?

Rot excepted, just about anything that goes on any other car/van.

Thanks - MOT booked in for next Thursday. The warranty is up on the 8th of September.

To date I have had the reversing sensor kit replaced, both rear light clusters replaced due to the black plastic going milky - one looks like it's doing it again, one ecu fault sorted after 2 days and the hazard lights are faulty and need sorting.

Apparently they are offering a free 20 point summer check, so I've asked for that at the same time. I shall pick through the results carefully.

Well it will fail its MOT if the hazard lights aren't fixed before the test itself. Would it be fair to guess that you are having your MOT done at the main dealer too. I'm not sure that this is always a good idea because if there are any issues, for example wear in some suspension bushes, then they may overlook them so as they don't have to do them as a warranty job and then they can sting you for the cost of replacing them at a later date.

Chap I know who's a motorbike dealer has one of these. Had to replace both the gear linkage (cables?) - common fault I gather, and also the steering column. He also had a complete new engine under warranty - but I don't know the story behind that.

I am with Simon on this - don't get the test done at any place that has a vested intererst in failing it! I had my car done in June at a Nationwide Auto Centre, now part of and co-located with Halfords depots. Then took it to a main dealer for a 36K/3 year service and some work resulting from the independent MOT.
