I'd rather have one of those silly mopeds with the engine on the front mudguard!

VeloSolex... four-stroke engine too. A bit thirsty for what it is but fairly quiet and not without charm.

- but where do you get the spares?
You don't, you throw it away and buy another one. You should get a couple of years out of it with oil and filters and plug changes.

Those chineese scooters aren't very good in my humble opinion at the moment.
Argos do a similar one.
Problem is I have seen some running, and they seem really cheap and nasty.
I ride a Kymco, made in Taiwan, and it is 'very good'. Not as good as Honda, but I have ridden a Kymco for 21,000 kms and it has never given trouble. My other kymco has had two problems: but cheap to fix and 14000kms.
Second hand I think Kymco makes better sense - and they don't rust so much!

Greg,
Is this the trouble free bike with random revving and lack of movement when clutch is engaged? ;>)
When I said spares I meant minor items and service parts . Not going to through one away for the sake of a handlebar lever , indicator lens etc. surely?

"Greg,

I knew someone would say that here. But with all respect, this can be fixed very easily by my mechanic - its just the time to take it there that is the problem. And with cars, the kind of problems people get across the spectrum is far more expensive than having to 'adjust a clutch' or 'adjust the idling'. So although this problem is annoying and doesn't make the bike perfect, I am sure owners of cars (even toyota's) have had trouble.
All I am saying is that the chineese scooters for 700 euros will be worth 700 euros and will break based on what I have seen, and spoken to owners.

And in addition to that, I have owned the bike for 2 years now. So we are not talking a major problem. Just a matter of a ten minute job by a mechanic!
