"Can anyone think of a more ugly vehicle when viewed from behind?"
easy:
Any BMW styled by Bangle.
New Astra
All new Renaults
Last Ford Granada.
And that's without trying.
Then:
Jaguar S type (retro styling without flair)
And Rolls or Bentley 1967 to 2000
ALL 4x4s with spare wheel on the rear door.
The list is endless.

Careful madf
Leonard has his spare wheel on the rear door, and you wouldn't want to upset him would you?

I'm struggling to think of a more pointless car than a Cayenne, even considering the low standard already set my SUV's it is a stupid car.
The V6 costs £35k. That money get's you a really good 5 Series. 155 mph, 6.5 secs to 60 and 32mpg (allegedly).
£35k for a Cayenne gets you performance that won't shake a modern diesel hatch back off (that can be had for half the cost) and 18 mpg when driven by a 60 year old grand mother.
"Arrh, but it handles well and goes off the road too"
snipped - naughty word ! PU - trainee Mod. If I was the chassis engineer for the 5 series or any of it's competitors and a Cayenne drove better, I would shoot myself. It would be very interesting to see how they really fair off the road. Compare it to a machine that is happy to earn its living off the road, like an L200.

You need to shoot yourself then, I've been in a Cayenne Turbo & my god was it quick, it also corners like it's on rails. Apparently also quite the thing in Saudi & similar for hauling over the sand dunes.
Like for like I'd be surprised if anything else 4 x 4 could corner as quick as the air sprung Cayenne.

What is this carp? The Cayenne is just a big fat 4X4, but it's the one you'd have if you wanted to go briskly in that kind of vehicle.
The thing's obviously really good, as it damn well ought to be at that price.
I'd love a go in one. I don't see anything wrong with them at all. There are more of them round here than there are Priuses, and that's saying something. I imagine they use about four times as much fuel as a Prius. What's wrong with that?
Don't think I'd want one. But I really dig them all the same.

There was a cracking test on Fifth Gear last week, but nobody admits to watching it. According to that test it goes very quickly and handles like a dream. I wouldn't want one, I prefer my old Landie 'cos if I hit a tree in it and scratched its paint it wouldn't worry me. Now in a Porsche I'd be sick as the proverbial parrot sitting in that tree !
"But I really dig them all the same."
How very retro Lud - but expressive nonetheless.

I am at a loss to see how someone who drives a corrigated steel shed called leonard, can make an informed comment on the beauty (or otherwise) of another car.

My ''corrigated (sic) steel shed'' only cost me £3,350.00 so I can live with its suspect characterful styling. I was only commenting on the rear quarters of the Cayenne and I think its other flanks look ok. In fact, I would love to borrow one for a few months, provided someone else paid the fuel and insurance costs.
My taste is dubious to say the least...years ago I owned a Marina TC Coupe in purple...says it all really. In mitigation, I did own one of the first Pug 205 Gtis (B211 UCP) which I still consider to look tremendous in silver. Oh, I also had a Fiat 128 estate....

I've been driven round the MIRA track in a Cayenne Turbo too, and yes it was quick. But I would rather go round even quicker in a proper Porsche.
I've also driven round the (very soft) off-road track at the Cayenne factory in Leipzig in a V6 Cayenne. Firstly the air suspension had packed up after only 3,000km, and secondly it conked out in water that, only with some effort, could we get to go over the bonnet.
So the Cayenne is not very good off road, and not very good on road - bit of a compromise all round. It's also small for it's size internally. The only advantage it has is the comand driving position, but then so does a Picasso at a fraction of the price. Pointless, really, IMHO.
