I find they tend to come off OK with a good soaking and washing. If necessary, leave a soaking wet towel on for a while. Failing that, use a clay bar - works wonders; but you might want to add a coat of wax afterwards.

In fact, well waxed paintwork reduces the problem of flies sticking.

Doesn't the snow soften them? Wait 'til February.
To paraphrase Terry Pratchett: 'The dirt gets so thick, it tends to fall off of its own accord'.

I use Rain X on the windscreen, it stops the bugs sticking, to get them off before applying the rain X I give the screen a good soaking with windolene spray or similar, then a good wipe over with a towel usually shifts them.

On the paintwork I use Poorboys world polish, it stops them sticking and it doesn't leave a white residue like wax, so you can slap it on all over the front of the car.

Put concentrated summer screen wash into your washer bottle will help remove most bugs whilst driving. For stickey bugs use car window cleaner spray and leave for a 1 min then wipe clean or turn the wipers on, re-apply for stubborn bugs. As already mentioned, applying Rain-X or similar helps reduce bugs grip and makes removal a lot easier, apply every few weeks for it to remain effective.

Autoglym make a very fly remover, just spray on and leave for a few minutes - personally I then apply a spot of liquid hard wax in the case of body work. A good tip for windscreens is to apply a solution of fairy and water and leave it for 20 minutes in the cool of the evening and it should lift the dead flies off.
