Cavalier 2.0 clutch pedal noise. - FotheringtonThomas
Why does my M-reg Cavalier 2.0 ecotec make a slight but audible asthmatic wheezing noise when I push
down the clutch? What should I do about it? I've owned the car for 200 miles, and this noise has only become
apparent in th last 20.

release bearing on the way out ?
not a lot you can do about it , either let it get noisier, or take the box down and investigate, sorry.

Clutches on these can be changed in situ, without the need to split the engine from the gearbox.

are you sure ? ecotec engined ?

You may well be right, but I thought it only became more involved when the Vectra-B took it's place.

Alas, no - many Cavaliers changed their flywheel layout, which ruled out changing the clutch easily. This change over began as early as 1992 models with certain engine sizes.

Is this a "springy" type noise. If so they all do that !

It doesn't go "pdoinnng pdoinnnng", or twang twang boing (etc.), it seems to go wheeze whirr wheeze whirr when the clutch pedal is pressed down. I would hazard a guess that it might be something to do with a "release bearing", whatever one of those is. It sounds like something going around, anyway, and the noise is occasionally audible if the pedal is pressed to the floor and kept there for a few seconds.

What a nuisance if the clutch can't be done easily as in days of yore! Rear ends (if I may say that).

Cavaliers are famous for a squeaky clutch cable pivot where it is attached to the clutch pedal - are you sure it's not that making the noise?
Of course the following may not apply if Ecotec engined Cavaliers went over to hydraulic clutch operation.......
To fix cable squeak - remove 10p-sized black plastic turn clips under driver's side dash through which pedals poke down (turn clips 90 degrees with screwdriver until free) , then drop down black trim panel and apply grease to where clutch cable is attached to pedal. However to get a good "fix" you need to get grease between the back of the cable & the pedal without actually taking off the cable - which is a right pain to re-attach.
