Hi all,
Following house move, we've invested in a 1992 Volvo 940S auto estate. Came with 12 months MOT, 5 months tax for £675 (trade in at a dealer in Kent)! Decent condition, too (one or two minor dings, nothing major). So far, I love the easy drive and relaxing road manners (just kind of rolls along there), as well as the huge capacity (TWO fridge freezers to the tip in the back). SWBO loves the heated seats (good for her back, apperently). To the point. It's done 148k, cambelt changed at 112k (according to the sticker on the cover). The Manual suggests 50k between changes, but should I be more conservative? The other drive belts look a little frayed, although I probably wouldn't have worried except that some spares were in the car when I bought it! Easy to change, or easier at the dealer?
TIA,
Best to all,
Alex.

Father had big problems with the 16v model of this engine. The cambelt sprockets were made out of plastic and tended to shatter. Twice in fact, within 40000 miles. May not be the belt but the ancillary parts that would worry me although I would confess to not being an expert!!

Good luck Alex - we bought one when we moved to France, it was clean as a whistle, had about 160k on it and all we did was service it before handing it on to my son 10k later. He then put another 10k on it before selling it at a profit!
Yes, it's a bit of a barge but I too got used to the way it handled and actually became quite fond of it, not least because it would carry sawn-up tree trunks 2 metres long.
And, I have to say, until owning the 940 I used to laugh at the idea of heated seats. Not any more...
