wheel bearing mk 3 fiesta - milkyjoe
hi, could any one tell me the diameter of the wheel bearings for a mk 3 fiesta (front) as i need to get some bits of tubing to drift them in before hand, and any other advice for the job in hand (seems a bit long winded in the haynes manual) cheers

I've usually used an old socket for doing this sort if thing. That way I know I've got a variety of diameters available in suitably hard metal and they're not too expensive to replace on the rare occasion that things go wrong.

I read often, only post occasionally

Measure the new one.

I usually use the old one, it's a perfect size, as long as you don't drive it in too far. Once the new one's flush, any old bit of metal can be used as a drift.

i suggest you dont attemp this job yourself without a press as you will most likely be unsuccesfull.
get the hub off take to your local independant garage smile nicely to the boss/foreman and cross his hand with silver
he will do it in 5 minutes in his press

im not so sure if it is the bearing after all, i have an intermittent scuffing noise particularly when turning (veering) on bends but not so much in a straight line, i jacked up the front and there is a tiny bit of play in the wheel and a tad bit of binding when i spin the wheel over, would it be safe to swap the discs over to see if the scuffing is a warped disc( hence then the noise coming from other side)? cheers

i dont recommend you swap discs at all as you will put out of sinc where the pads actually touch
take off road wheel
take off retaining clip
remove two sliding hex bolts (warning these are tight)
remove caliper
check for a stone etc caught between caliper locating cage and disc

ive had the calipre and disc off and there is nothing trapped but the pads are not evenly worn, the outer pad has about 5mm left on it but the inner pad is about a fag paper thickness , the inner disc face is pretty scored too

sounds like you have found the problem then
be sure that the caliper can slide on its slides when you fit new discs and pads
also
you need to confirm that the piston isnt sticking in the caliper as well
