Help have you any idea whats this electrical problem.
Monday morning smashed windscreen, replaced by one of the national chains.
After fitting drove 8 miles and lost the following electrical functions, indicators, fuel gauge, temp gauge, and rev counter. Also lost rear wiper but not washer, front intermittent wipe function, but washers working finally hazard lights working.
The front windscreeen was a heated front by the way, the car is fitted with a tracker and this is linked to hands free function of the phone aerial is one of those sticky things that go on the winscreen with the tax disc in it.
Initial diagnosis by Ford was a jem module but this has been replaced and still no go.
My dealer has replaced every module that would affect this and still no progress, he has also swapped with an identical Focus all the bits that could be affected and they are all working fine but when they go back on my car still no joy.
Initial thoughts are earth problem or windscreen company nipped wires causing problem.but as he digs deeper we are inclined to forget this as all their work seems o.k.. car now offroad for all of this week so getting a bit frustrated, Any one come across this problem even Ford technical seems at a loss.
Car is a 52 plate tdci

For all these circuits to fail at once and having eliminated the modules, it has to be an earthing problem or a common feed problem. Check all the battery feeds and earths then the fuse box feeds and earths.

Just to close this subject my Focus has returned and the following was the fault.
A broken circuit board behind the dash , now soldered up and working fine.
I wonder if when the mecanic pushed the old windsreen out he pushed hard on the top of the dash to cause the problem.

mrnikko,

Is the replacement screen a genuine spare or is it a pattern part? If the latter, is it as good as the original? Are there any defective elements and is the heated area the same? The reason I ask is that my non-genuine replacement has one or two defective elements and there is a larger unheated area at the sides of the screen then the original. Who replaced yours and what make is the screen?

Check the earth wires to the battery! there should be a thin black & red one that bolts to the earth terminal, has it fallen away? just near to that is a thicker black & blue wire that bolts to the inner wing & suffers from corrosion!. Do you pressure wash it ? ford wiring looms are notorious for eart connections within the loom deteriorating due to having earth connectors rapped in the loom. Pressure washing tends to penetrate the looms & they never dry out & corrode away. Hope its something simple

Hi Guys,
Sorry for late reply been off for a coupla days.
The winscreen came from National Windscreens and we have had frosts the last two mornings and it works o.k. no area of the screen left with frost on.
All others electrics working fine as well my local ford dealer was as mistified with the cause as I was. He took it to a specialist auto electrician to sort it out.
If i have any more trouble I will post it
Cheers
Mr Nikko

I would be very interested to find out exactly what printed circuit "soldered up behind the dash" fixed your car.To the best of my knowledge the only electrical/electronic parts behind the dash are the cabin fuse/relay box and the Gems control unit.Cannot see either of these being affected by a screen replacement.

Sorry I cannot help you on that one my reliable garage man just told me that a pin on the circuit board behind the dash that is part of the speedo display was broken and it was soldered up and working.
Suspicsion by my boss was that when the grease monkey pushed the old cracked windsreen out he put undue pressure on the top of the dash area. The car is due for replacement in June so he did not wish to spend lodsa money on the car as its nearly four years old.
