Confused.com - ianhadden
Has anyone had a look at confused.com lately? I can't get any resonce from it.
I then went onto a couple of other sites, 1 insisted that I had put my phone number in incorrectly. I live in London, my number is 020 8xxx xxxx. An 8 digit proced by 020 for London.
I then went to another site, where it wanted the registration number of the vehicle, I hav'nt bought it yet. It then threw me back to the begining of the BLANK form.
Why can't these sites get sorted so as to help ME, Joe Public?

Yes, you get the homepage, then click on one ot the types of insurance and nothing happens. I'll continue to go to my usual broker where you speak to a human being - you can E-mail if you don't want to ring in office hours. I've found that the best way is to visit individual insurance companies' websites direct. Takes a bit longer but the financial gains can be worthwhile.

All that Confused.com and similar websites do is bring up those insurance companies with whom they have an agreement to take a commission if you take out insurance via the link they provide.

Just like brokers (which is in effect exactly what they are), they may well not deliver the savings you might expect because of the fact they could well wish to maximise such commission.

If I'm in a hurry, I use such websites to gain an idea of potential savings and then go direct to the appropriate insurance company or companies for a quote.

Theydid a good deal for me back in November so it could be worth persisting with trying to get into the site. I found them offering a quote from my existing insurer that was £65 cheaper than the quote on my renewal notice. I got on the phone and did a bit a bit of haggling and got the lower quote honoured so a result - for me at least.

Confused got us a better deals on home insurance from a number of companies than we could get direct through their respective websites. Of course you dont have to buy there and then, you can follow the Confused link to the ins co website, save the quote and the go back later to purchase so you dont lose flexibility either.

Altogether saved £240 on buildings and contents ins with better cover.

That's a more than useful saving..:-)

Incidentally we've had such cover with the Pru for more than 40 years and the company has served us well. However, a couple of years ago underwriting was switched to Churchill by the company.

Even so, my other half who has this insurance in her name as she already had one such policy for her parents' home, refused to look at other offers despite the fact I told her it would be cheaper.

At present she is in hospital, the policy is due for renewal, so I checked on the Churchill website for exactly the same cover but this time in my name.

The quote was approximately £120 cheaper than I anticipate the Pru's rewnewal premium to prove...:-)

Used Confused in the past. Very happy. Owing to a glitch on their siteon the day I wanted to renew my insurance, I decided to use MoneySupermarket instead. Even more pleased, as they seemed to have far more insurers on their books.
In the end though, I took my cheapest quote from MoneySupermarket to ChrisKnott Insurance, who took another 10% off the quote to go with them. As they are a Kent based broker with real people in a small office, I was very glad to give them the business.
