I see there is a new diesel version of the C5, with a 2.2 173 bhp engine. It seems to have caught Citroen on the hop, as there is no technical information available for it on the UK site, and no mention of it on the home page of the web site either.
|
It even outguns the 3.0i V6 petrol model with a 0-62mph time of just 8.5 seconds for the hatchback
'borrowed'

Chance of a test drive report from HJ, perhaps? He´s driven all the other diesels of equivalent capacity/power, so it would be interesting to see how the C5 compares.

|
Where did you find the info, as there is nothing on the Citroen UK web site?

Is this a twin turbo engine - I think I read somewhere Peugeot had introduced a twin turbo diesel engine with 170 hp - although I thought that was the 2.0 rather than the 2.2. (They should be abe to manage 190 - 200 hp from that fairly easily I think, - overlaps the v6 2.7 I know (again that should manage more power easily).

The press release says it is a twin turbo engine.

">The press release says it is a twin turbo engine.<"
So that's two turbos to go wrong instead of one .... how wonderful ;-)
|
if i remember correctly its one big turbo and one little turbo
so it will be one big bill and one smaller one
obviously it is such a refined car i am talking many years hence

Based on the 2.0 belt cam unit as fitted to C-Max etc, currently in the 407, soon in various Fords etc.

But it's the 2.2 engine, so are you sure it's based on the 2 litre unit? Is it not an update of the old 2.2 HDI?

Yes, it is a Ford/PSA unit based on the newer HDi 2.0 which is also called TDCi in the Focus, C-Max, S-Max and Galaxy. It is not related to the older 2.2 HDi or the Ford chain cam 2.2 TDCi which is used in the Mondeo and X-Type.

I like big Cits (pardon?). It's just the thought of those monster repair bills that scare me. I drove an XM something-or-other a few years ago, a machine for the 21st century. Cit fluid suspension is unbeatable ... until it goes wrong.

Having scrolled down a little lower, that Subaru Imprezza seems remarkable value for money compared to a Focus. Checked out their website and it says they are 4WD (ticks a box here in t'country), CD, and Climate as well as real friver appeal and not being an Eurobox. Sent off for a brochure with a view to SWMBO falling in love with it.
|
A Scooby for Pug? Have you considered a 6R4?
What is "friver appeal" ? Is it yokel-speak?
|
Nah it's been married to a bean counter a combination of driver and fiver !
|
Oh! Driver appeal! Why didn't you say so?? ;-)
|
My fingers are still trembling from a two hour Landie "experience" this afternoon !
|
Ah! The old LR tremble :-)
|
I've also seen it reported that it is to get the 2.7 V6 HDi as well eventually. Now THAT will be a laugh!
How long before I can get one for <£2k? About 6 months probably....

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....

As per the 407 the C5 2.7 will be auto only, performance similar to the (manual) 2.2 though a lot higher CO2.

No - it will be one big bill and one absolutely horrendously enormous bill1
