audi a4 tdi 1999 model alarm problem - 47rugby
Recently on locking up the car the vehicle alarm has gone off randomly after 10-15minutes in the recent hot weather. I have two keys - a replacement key from audi which was progammed by them which I have used for two years and an original blipper fob key auto locks and sets the alarm. Both of these keys have operated correctly for the last two years. When I return to the car and reset the alarm all is quiet for 10-15mins and then it goes off again. Where do you begin to check for faults?

Grasping at straws here! Does your car have anything in the alarm system which detects pressure changes? These are usually in the system to set off the alarm if a window is broken. These sensors can be oversensitive, at the worst a large moth flying around in the car could set it off and others on this forum have suggested closing all the car air vents as gusts of wind can generate enough of a pressure change to trigger the alarm, With you mentioning a fairly reuglar 10 to 15 minute cycle this doesn't sound like the answer but it might be worth closing the vents and seeing if it has any effect!

Hi, Have you got a after market alarm fitted, if so this could cause the the audi factory fit to go off. I have a 98 1.9tdi
i had a toad alarm fitted and 6 moths latter the audi system decided to go off every half hour, the guy who fitted the alarm checked the toad and it was working fine, we managed to tie it down to the ultra sound sensors in the B pillar above the seat belt mounts. We removed the plastic covers and put duck tape over the audi sensors and it has been fine now for nearly year....... ps you cannot disable the audi unit so you just blind it with tape...

Might be worth having a look & feel under the front passenger seat.

If you feel any damp on the carpet or spot any water then you have found the problem.

Theres a electronic unit under the seat that controls the locking, alarm, electric windows & mirrors etc & once that gets wet you end up with a very large repair bill.

Its normally the alarm that plays up first, All trouble that for a £8 rubber seal.

VW Passat from that era is the same.
