I am trying to wire up a trailer electrical socket and asked advice at a Peugeot dealer. I was told that if it was not multiplex, I could just connect up to the wires to each light etc.. However, if it was multiplex, then I would need o purchase a genuine Peugeot wired up plug.
I was then told that I myself would be unable to tell if it was multiplex or not, and I would need to take it in for the dealer to look at.
Can anyone help me to find out the answer? What do I look for? And if it is a multiplex version, do I really only have the one option of buying a genuine Peugeot plug?
The car is a March 2000 reg 1761 cc petrol LX estate. Thank you.

A Google for "peugeot 406 multiplex" shows that it's post '02 406s that are multiplexed, the implication being that yours isn't.

Also confirmed (admittedly with an iffy full stop that requires some interpretation) in the Car-by-Car Breakdown of this website.
Good luck - it looks like being a traditional wiring job to hook up the trailer electrics.

Does the key have separate lock and unlock symbols on the buttons?
|
The key has 2 buttons. One in the middle with the Peugeot logo on it, and a smaller one with no symbol.

No need to worry about buttons; your car is not multiplexed so you know how to proceed.
