Driving Test Question - artful dodger {P}
According to an email I have been sent, this question has just been added to the driving theory test.

There is only one answer, do you know it?

Driving Test Question

You are driving along a two lane road with a NO OVERTAKING sign, and come upon a bicycle rider. Do you follow this slow-moving bicycle rider for the next 2 miles, or do you break the law and pass?

What would you do.

i would just overtake as its not really a road vechicle is it..
Driving Test Question - commerdriver
Reading the HC (I know, cheating a bit) it looks as though the strict answer is that you stay behind until the end of the no overtaking zone.
99.9% of the time however, like most people I would overtake as soon as it is safe to do so
Driving Test Question - local yokel
I'd stop where safe, and shout to the bike rider and ask them to pull over while I passed.

Not the answer you are looking for, but quite legal.
Driving Test Question - BazzaBear {P}
Is this the situation where you can only overtake if the bicycle is doing less than 20 mph?

Regardless I would choose my response based on what was safe, not what the driving test told me to do.

It's a joke!

Attached to the email there should be a phot of a young lass with a shapely backside cycling along standing on the pedals!

Overtake as soon as it was safe to do so.

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
Driving Test Question - L'escargot
If the cyclist is typical they won't even be remotely aware that you are behind them, so drive up quietly until you are close behind and then give a long blast on your horn. With any luck they will fall off their bike onto the verge, leaving you with an unrestricted road ahead.

Driving Test Question - Altea Ego
Overtake. If there is insufficient room to overtake without crossing the white lines you obviously flatten the cyclist in the process.

The world does not need another vegetarian Green Party member anyway.

It's not double white lines - you can cross these to overtake a cyclist it's a no overtaking sign. Seems to me like a very bad question where the correct answer is not what normal drivers do.

Oh come on, would a question in the driving theory test really be framed 'or do you break the law and pass'!!

Last time I saw a no overtaking sign it featured picture of one car overtaking another car with the overtaking car in read.

Never saw picture of one car over-taking a cyclist.

I cannot imagine the test saying that.

But it reminds me of the case when traffic lights are stuck on red. You are supposed to turn around and go the other way.

This assumes were are all morons totally dependent on traffic lights to tell us what to do. The problem with these Driving Standards folk is their rules is rules approach risks undermining our own ability to think. The more reliant on signs and signals, the less scope for common sense the dumber (and more dangerous) we all become.

What about those orange matrix signs - if they are flashing (with no speed limit indicated) you are supposed to slow down to 30mph until no more flashing signs. Even if you have 10 miles of clear motorway ahead of you. Teaching learners to behave like this is little short of criminal.

THANK YOU!

I first saw that joke about a year or so ago and I tried in vain yesterday to find it.

I knew the answer to the question and I did see the photo, but I thought it was a good question to ask to test your responses.

I'd only stay behind if SWMBO was not in the car. If she was, I'd pretend not to notice... ;¬)
