My local rag is reporting that the Police are having a purge on tinted windows in cars. It seems they're pulling over cars and checking the tint with some electrical device.
Now my Passat Sport has OE tinted rear windows (not the front) including rear screen.
Am I at risk of a tug by an ignorant of the law PC?
Maybe they don't know that some Passat, Toureags etc have rear tints as standard and tug me anyway?
Have VW done their homework and have the correct and legal tint density?
I know this subject has been done to death in here but can I have some fresh input please.
TIA

You're fine providing the front windows are "normal".

They may be more interested in getting round a WPC's house to watch some porn on their mobile phones!!

No problem.
I have read stories of an OE tinted Lexus being done but that was the front windows, they were noticably dark and he'd bought it second hand so couldn't strictly state whether they were properly OE tinted.
Just think of vans - they manage with no side/back windows.
As an aside, as I understand it, front windows are almost on the cusp of the regulations anyway.

My fear is that cars fitted with OE and perfectly legal tints give an over zealous P.C. ammunition just to tug you over.

Got something to hide? ;-)
I'd be amazed if you ever got pulled for your windows if you never touched them.

The VOSA chaps in their Ford Galaxy's have been out with their light meters in my area checking tints. It's good to see, I can't stand not being able to make eye contact with other drivers when necessary.

Just to make it clear: there's nothing wrong with rear tints, even with complete black out.
However, the windscreen has to let in 75% of light and the front side windows 70% of light. Apart from that, you can do what you want.
Standard tints on a car from the factory will not (should not?) fall foul of these rules.
