Insurance - do they make it up! - daveyjp
My parents are going away this weekend and as they are flying from an airport near us are leaving my mum's 5 year old Fiesta at our house.

My mum rang her insurance to put me on her insurance so my wife could use my car. They initially quoted about £20 - £10 to add and £10 admin. When she called back with a bit more info this had increased to £65 for one week's cover. Needless to say she told them where to get off - her annual policy is only £104.

I'm late thirties with a full NCB, held a licence for 20 years and never had an accident, so hardly a risky driver.

The irony is the car will still be left at our house and will still be covered for theft on my mum's policy and I can drive it on my own policy third party only anyway.

How would putting you on the insurance enable your wife to drive the car?

I think he means if he can drive his mum's car then his wife can use his car.
