I was reading the article on the best motorway services:

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4781082.stm

Have a look at the archive picture at the top...4 star for 51.9 pence!

I love the comment in the article that Collumpton is little more than a McDonalds next to the motorway. That's precisely what it is!

And all the better for it!

Reasonably priced quality fast food, I often stop there of an evening and bolt down a cheeseburger to keep me going (79p VFM) and take a choc shake with me, sits in a dash cup holder which lasts me until I exit at Burnham.

McDs charge the same on the High St or in a captive environment like the services, Burger King on the other hand charge a fortune in their m/way restaurants.

Perhaps 8-9 yrs ago? Has the requirement for services to display prices been revoked? - don't recall seeing it recently.

Motorway services are hateful places by and large, the only one I like is Exeter services on the M5.

Last year, I stopped at the Sandbach services on the M6. Walked into the toilet and found a 'tramp' defacating in a urinal.

What concerned me more was how he had got himself to a service station on the M6.

Probably arrived in a late-model 'prestige make' car that he had bought for cash a few days earlier. You wouldn't want him soiling the white hide seats would you?
