Hello All,
I hope fellow Renault owners (TVM and co?) can help with this one.
Girlfriend drives a 2001 Renault Scenic RT fitted with front and back electric sunroofs. Over the weekend the rear sunroof jammed itself in the open position. When the switch is pressed to close the roof, I can hear a relay clicking adjacent to the roof, but the motor doesn't operate.
Is it possible to close the roof manually? Or, if its the anti-pinch mechanism at fault, can I override this long enough to get the roof shut?
TVM (or RF as he was then) posted instructions for the Scenic II - www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=23435&...e - but the sunroof on this model is controlled by a knob, and it seems that its possible to gain access to the roof motor to close it using an allen key. Does this also apply to the Sceinc Mk 1?
Any advice greatly appreciated, not least because tonight's weather forecast is for rain!
Regards,

Have you looked in the hand book? My Mondeo windows and roof have anti pinch which is over ridden by a combo of ignition on/off and pushing the relevant switch a couple of times. I suspect the wife's Clio (which has an elec roof) is the same though it is not here for me to RTFM.

There should be a place to put an Allen key to wind the roof shut by hand ,should tell you in the manual.

I had a problem with mine a while back when it wouldn't shut. It turned out to be some dirt in the channels, there's a system to kill the power if an obstruction is felt. Dealer cleaned the channels and problem has never returned.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.
There's no mention of an override for the anti-pinch mechanism or a manual method to close the sunroof in the handbook. Neither is there any obvious point to insert an allen key, or cover that gives access to one.
I'm told there was an intermittent fault with the sunroof when Girlfriend bought the car. She took it back to the dealer, who fixed it and said something about 'grit in the mechanism' but she knows nothing about where the offending grit was so we could try cleaning it again.

From memory (so take that as a possible "inaccurate" warning!) you have to remove (prise off) the cover from around the switch and you will find the motor with an allen key hole in the shaft.
AFAIK there is no anti pinch mechanism on Scenic 1 sunroofs

I suggest that 'grit in the mechanism' could really only refer to the grooves/runners in which the roof slides. There isn't any way that grit could get into the motor or switches IMHO

A quick update on the final outcome, in case it helps somebody else in due course:
Having had no success in finding how to remove the trim around the motor housing or switches, the local garage took a look last night. TVM was right - the offending motor and switchgear is behind the panel between the windscreen sunblinds, but this proved very difficult to remove without doing damage.
In the end, it turned out there was a loose connection to the control switch for the rear sunroof. Tightening this was enough to get the roof closed again.
Many thanks for your help on this, one and all. Much appreciated!
